Job Title: Cook Salary: $17.00-$19.00 Hourly.

Position Type: Part Time Travel Percentage: 10%

Location: Houston, 77006 Reports To: Manager of Residential Services

Department: Residential Pay Schedule: Semi-monthly

Schedule: Friday- 7:30am-5:30pm Saturday and Sunday 6:00 am -2:00pm

Description: As a part time Cook at the Women's Home Organization, you will play a crucial role in providing nutritious and delicious meals to the women in our care. You will work closely with our clients and be an integral part of our supportive community. Your culinary skills and compassion will contribute to creating a warm and nourishing environment where our clients can thrive.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure food service compliance with various standards the agency must meet (i.e., City of Houston, Texas Department of State Health Services).
  • Help develop an annual budget for food and related supplies and monitor costs to ensure they are within budgeted parameters.
  • Purchase food and supplies per agency guidelines and approved menus.
  • Review, approve and secure food deliveries.
  • Provide training to residents and Residential Supervisors on safety procedures of the kitchen including food handling.
  • Prepare one to two meals a day following a dietician approved menu plan.
  • Ensure there are meals planned and food available for all weekend meals following dietician approved menu plan.
  • Prepare dietician directed therapeutic meals as needed.
  • Ensure there is a two-week supply of food available.
  • Attends and participates in agency trainings, conferences and residential staff meetings as needed.
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.
  • Assist with quarterly client awards banquet.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and willing to drive agency vehicle.
  • Food Management Certificate
  • Food Handler's certification (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Valid City of Houston Food Dealer’s Permit
  • Experience in commercial kitchen required.
  • Exhibits mature judgment and ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents.
  • Able and willing to work a flexible schedule including early evening hours and holidays.
