World Wide Surface Category Manager- Small Business at Retail

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Go-To-Market (GTM) leader to manage our expansion into SMB at Retail. The World Wide Surface Category Manager- Small Business at Retail plays a pivotal role in expanding Microsoft's Surface business into the Small and Medium Business (SMB) segment through retail channels. This role sits at the intersection of consumer and commercial strategy, driving global go-to-market (GTM) execution, partner engagement, and category performance for Surface devices and accessories.
In Surface, our business goal is clear: Profitably Grow Surface Volume & Share. We accomplish this goal in two ways:
- Selling TO our retail partners: Use customer insights, market data, store level analysis, and device sales information to evaluate our business performance and develop seasonal, launch & sustain plans to improve our partners business, win share, sell units, and drive revenue/ GM.
- Selling THRU our retail partners: Plan and execute thoughtful and impactful promotions and full-funnel-marketing plans, focused on driving purchase intent, conversion & post purchase advocacy & consumer lifetime value for Surface devices & accessories
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute global category strategies to grow Surface SMB sales through retail, aligning with both consumer and commercial business goals.
- GTM Execution: Lead seasonal, launch, and sustain plans using market insights, store-level analytics, and device sales data to drive revenue, share, and profitability.
- Channel Expansion: Identify and onboard retail partners capable of supporting commercial SKUs, ensuring compliance with Microsoft's launch policies and channel hygiene standards
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Sales, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Operations, and Marketing teams to ensure scalable and compliant execution of SMB retail initiatives
- Performance Management: Monitor KPIs such as revenue, GM%, assortment, and share of business per partner. Drive continuous improvement through data-driven insights
- Program Governance: Collaborate with launch managers to secure stakeholder approvals and ensure execution is compliant and audit-ready. Oversee ongoing programs and retail offers, including promotional frameworks and deal requirements, to drive operational excellence.
- Supply Management: Lead assortment planning and ensure consistent product availability across retail partners and distribution channels, aligning supply with demand to optimize sales and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Required/minimum qualifications
- 4+ years category management, product management, marketing strategy, business planning, product planning, or related work experience AND Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Economics, Public Relations, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience.
- 4 + years in consumer channel management, including joint business planning, account management, and delivering sales results through operational excellence
- 4+ years experince in analytical and financial work, with experience managing budgets, profit and loss, and driving sustainable growth through partner collaboration
- 6+ years category management, product management, marketing strategy, business planning, product planning, or related work experience AND Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Economics, Public Relations, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years experience managing and expanding a category and attaining sales and profitability targets within a complex (e.g., multinational or matrixed) organization OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience developing and executing marketing strategies that drive business results while maintaining brand integrity
- 5+ years of experience translating key performance indicators (KPIs) into actionable plans to accelerate growth or address performance gaps
- 5+ years of experience influencing diverse stakeholder groups, including internal teams and external partners, across a matrixed global organization
