Role: Windows Server Systems Engineer. Location: Silver Spring, MD. (on-site full-time).
Job Description: The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, configuration, maintenance, and support of Windows Server environments, including on-premise and virtualized systems.
This role involves managing server upgrades, ensuring system security, and troubleshooting complex issues. The Systems Engineer will also contribute to project planning and implementation, particularly in relation to server migrations and infrastructure enhancements.
Responsibilities: Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including Windows Server 2016, 2019, and higher versions. Perform upgrades and migrations of Windows Servers, including transitioning from older OS versions (e.g., 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 to 2022). Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Servers on vSphere environments. Administer Microsoft domain environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, DFS, ADFS, and LAPS. Perform enterprise-wide server and desktop systems patching for OS and standard applications. Provide virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, Azure, other cloud-based virtual products) design, engineering, maintenance, and support. Monitor server performance and troubleshoot problem areas. Provide Tier III support and investigate and troubleshoot issues related to Windows servers. Assist in strategic technical planning, performance engineering, and risk management for server infrastructure. Ensure system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and procedures adhere to federal, DOC, NOAA, and OMAO requirements and guidelines. Skills & Qualifications: Extensive experience with Windows Server administration (2016, 2019, and higher). Proficiency in managing and deploying virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V). Strong understanding of Active Directory, GPOs, DNS, and DHCP. Experience with server patching and vulnerability management. Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and application-level issues. Knowledge of backup and recovery solutions. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Minimum Experience: BS or BA or four (4) additional years of related experience. Clearance Requirements: Active Public Trust is required.
