About the Position

This Position is ONLY Open to Montgomery County Government Employees:
Current Montgomery County Government employees;
Montgomery County employees who were affected by the reduction-in-force and currently have RIF priority rights;
Active Montgomery County local fire and rescue department volunteers with at least 50 points under the length of service award program (LOSAP); or
Active Project SEARCH Interns or former Montgomery County Government Customized Employment Public Interns, or Project SEARCH Interns within 24 months of completion of internship.
The expected salary range for this role on hire is $57,596 to $77,396.
WHO WE ARE
The Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE) is responsible for administering Federal, State, and County elections within Montgomery County. We are the largest jurisdiction in the state of Maryland, with approximately 750,000 registered voters with the largest number of mail-in ballots cast, 58 vote-by-mail drop boxes, 14 early voting centers, and 232 polling places on election day. The work of the Board of Elections is governed by the Federal and State legal framework, Maryland State Board of Elections regulations, and county regulations and procedures.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE) is currently recruiting to fill an Office Services Coordinator Position as the Voter Services - Candidate Filing Coordinator for its Voter Services Section. This is a full-time, permanent position that will report to the Chief of Voter Services while receiving directions from the Vote by Mail Manager.
What You'll Be Doing
The employee will facilitate candidate filing for prospective County Officeholder, ensuring a seamless and efficient process. The Vote by Mail Manager oversees and provides direction for the filing process. This role requires strict compliance with all applicable laws and meticulous accuracy in data capturing under time-sensitive deadlines. Additionally, the employee will be responsible for providing excellent customer service in-person, over the phone, and via email. The employee will be required to process and proof high volumes of electronic and paper mail in ballot applications; and issue vote by mail ballots to voters following Maryland State Board of Elections guidelines.? The position will also require the employee to attend off-site events to facilitate community outreach efforts.
Willingness to shift seamlessly between tasks consistent with office-program priorities and assignments.
Knowledge with Maryland State Candidate filing procedures, deadlines and fees.
Assist with receiving and processing all incoming and outgoing mail.
Proofing election material and data entries by others.
Support the Canvass and Provisional Leads or preparing and organizing materials.
Assist with post-election audits and archiving election material.
Provide cross-sectional support to enable successfully completion all election tasks within set deadlines.
A criminal background Criminal Justice Information System background check in accordance with the State of Maryland Rules of Security Behavior of Board of Elections Officials and Employees will be conducted on the selected candidate prior to appointment and will be a significant factor in the hiring decision.
Voter Registration : The candidate must be a Maryland registered voter or must register to vote in Maryland prior to date of hire.
This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.
Office hours are from 8:30am to 5:00pm, however during the election cycle, employee will be required to work overtime that would include evenings, weekends and holidays depending on the workload.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible office support experience.
Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted.
Voter Registration: The candidate must be a Maryland registered voter or must register to vote in Maryland prior to date of hire.
Background Check: The candidate must pass a Criminal Justice Information System background check in accordance with the State of Maryland Rules of Security Behavior of Board of Elections Officials and Employees.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified," placed on the Referred List, and may be considered for an interview.
Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with experience in the following: Experience with data entry and customer service.
Experience researching and applying election law.
Experience performing high-volume, accurate election data capturing and proofing.
Experience working under legally mandated deadlines.
Experience working independently on multiple and varied administrative tasks.
Experience exercising sound judgment, courtesy, and tact in responding to telephone callers and office visitors and make proper disposition of problems.
