The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing individualized care plans, implementing evidence-based interventions, and ensuring safety within the unit. Collaboration with psychiatrists, social workers, and the multidisciplinary team is essential to support stabilization and promote positive patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive mental health and physical assessments.

Administer medications and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects.

Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for patients.

Respond to psychiatric and behavioral emergencies using de-escalation techniques.

Document all patient interactions and interventions accurately.

Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and coping strategies.

Participate in treatment team meetings and unit safety initiatives.

Requirements: Active NYS RN License – Required

Minimum 1–2 years of inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health experience – Required

BLS (AHA) – Required

CPI, PMCS, or similar crisis intervention training – Preferred

EMR experience (EPIC preferred)

Strong communication, crisis-management, and de-escalation skills

Patient Population: Adults with psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and behavioral crises. Patient Ratio: Typically 1:6–8 , depending on unit acuity and staffing. Additional Details: Weekend or holiday rotations may be required.

May float within behavioral health units as needed.
