SUMMARY: The Telecommunications Mechanic II installs, tests, troubleshoots, programs, maintains, and repairs digital switching equipment, attendant consoles, power and ringing relay racks, miscellaneous telephone, radio, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, and computer data circuits and related apparatus required in the central switching office. This worker analyzes system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors. Employees in this position maintain manual and/or computerized central office records, including detail records, traffic analysis records, cable records, line records, subscriber service records, and spare parts inventories

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily SL-100 maintenance and backups

  • Switch log review and analysis

  • Central Office frame changes

  • Checking NPA website: maintain, update, and send to Management for CDRL

  • Monthly "Equipped Ports" report: maintain, update, and send to Management for CDRL

  • Trouble Tickets related to testing phones, calls, and circuits

  • Maintain telecom and fiber backbone at all sites

  • LEC, DISA point of contact for testing, trouble, and existing service changes.

  • EMS System maintenance

  • Circuit documentation

  • Quarterly switch filter maintenance (all sites)

  • Monthly battery load tests

  • Trunk maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Voicemail system software/firmware maintenance

  • Complete all DoD, NAVAIR, and company required training

  • Daily SMDR processing. Weekly transfer of files to DBMS

  • Run the digital cross connects in the fiber backbone system for T1 circuits going to a remote site. Install and wire office repeaters when required

  • Created and maintain databases for circuit management and fiber backbone

  • Perform data changes to SL-100 as need is identified

  • Maintains SL-100 spare card inventory (GFP list)

  • Add/remove line cards as needed

  • Maintain TELEBOSS, ALARMTRAQ, ADTRAN and TELLABS equipment and interfaces

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Position Requirements:

  • 3 to 10 years of experience and a BA/BS degree. 6 years' additional work experience in related field may be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
