As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Shift Production Manager II (2nd Shift) to join our team and drive our people strategy forward.

The Shift Production Manager II for the 2nd shift plays a critical role in overseeing the production operations within our durable goods manufacturing facility in Wetumpka, AL. This position is responsible for ensuring that production targets are met while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The manager will lead a team of production staff, providing guidance and support to optimize workflow and efficiency. Additionally, the role involves analyzing production metrics and implementing process improvements to enhance productivity. Ultimately, the Shift Production Manager II will contribute to the overall success of the manufacturing operations by fostering a positive work environment and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

As our Shift Production Manager II (2nd Shift) you will provide hands-on, results-driven leadership for a functional team within a high-performance environment. This role oversees the daily management of the shift and drives improvement activities through the development of people and processes and has overall accountability for the results of the team. Under the general direction of the VP of Operations, each team member maintains and enhances the company’s dry mix blending operations.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, production floor experience, and a passion for maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency in a food-grade environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in food manufacturing, preferably in dry mix, spice, or meat breading operations.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience leading and managing employees in a production/ manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and coach a team along with a deep respect for the capabilities of all people on the team.
  • Demonstrated practice of leadership principles. • Demonstrated understanding of the financial impact of business decisions affecting staffing, product components, and inventory.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills to assess risks.
  • Physical demands:
    • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds repeatedly and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds with help.
    • Ability to stand for long periods.
    • Have excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness. Vision abilities also include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Attention to detail: be detail-oriented and able to follow instructions accurately.
  • Communication skills: possess excellent communication, team leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Teamwork: be able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Problem solving skills be able to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
  • Safety knowledge: have a strong understanding of food safety regulations and procedures (GMP, HACCP, Allergen Controls).
  • Knowledge of packaging and processing equipment.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and troubleshooting production line issues.
  • Comfortable with ERP systems, basic Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook), and production reporting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise and coordinate all plant activities during assigned shift, including batching, blending, packing, and sanitation.
  • Lead a team of production employees (10–20 depending on shift) ensuring proper staffing, task delegation, and workflow.
  • Provides regular performance feedback and oversees development and training plans for individuals within the team. Utilizes coaching and facilitation skills to manage employee relations.
  • Removes barriers that prevent the team from achieving goals.
  • Actively uses performance and development tools to document and facilitate improvement/ recognition discussions.
  • Utilizes problem solving tools and methodologies to continually improve processes within the function.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and tenacity to resolve problems and implement process improvements.
  • Leads a root cause analysis when required for failures that meet the applicable threshold.
  • Develops and ensures all functional procedures and best practices are documented and continually improved. Interacts cross-functionally to resolve issues.
  • Directs and supports the daily management of the team to prioritize work and achieve goals.
  • Creates an atmosphere of 100% compliance with operational processes and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively up, down, and across the organization.
  • Communicates organizational and plant objectives, including the attainment of established scorecard metrics and ensures that they are understood and linked to the team’s work.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety (HACCP), Quality (SQF/BRC if applicable), and OSHA safety standards.
  • Monitor production KPIs: yield, downtime, waste, labor productivity, and shift performance goals.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues in collaboration with maintenance and quality teams.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings, assign tasks, and enforce company policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain shift documentation including production reports, quality checks, safety logs, and incident reports.
  • Train and coach employees on job functions, cross-training, and safety practices.
