Sterling Engineering is looking for a Field Service Engineer based in Austin, TX. This opportunity is with a growing company. The Service Engineer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization of SMT automation equipment while delivering exceptional service and representing the company with professionalism and expertise.
Job Duties :
Perform on-site installation, configuration, and startup of SMT automation systems across North America
Execute system retrofits, upgrades, and custom equipment modifications
Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and process-related issues both onsite and remotely to minimize downtime
Provide structured operator and maintenance training for customer personnel (including three software training classes)
Advise customers on best practices for process optimization, preventive maintenance, and system efficiency
Collect and analyze technical data for troubleshooting, reliability tracking, and process improvement
Prepare clear, detailed service reports, documentation, and feedback to customers and management
Serve as a technical liaison between customers and engineering departments
Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Qualifications :
Bachelor of Science degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field)
Experience with SMT automation equipment
Proficiency with interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and mechatronic system diagrams
Strong background in diagnostic repairs and preventive maintenance
Basic knowledge of Windows-based operating systems, software installation, and system configuration
Familiarity with networking concepts and modern computing applications
Strong problem-solving abilities with a customer-first mindset
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while thriving in a team environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Flexibility to travel extensively (up to 75%) and adapt to changing schedules and customer needs
