Senior Consumer Compliance Consultant – Retail First Line Risk

Overview:
Responsible for overseeing the identification, documentation, and resolution of regulatory issues within the first line of defense, ensuring timely and effective issue management in alignment with internal policies and external regulatory expectations. Provide guidance on complex compliance risk management activities to the assigned line of business to include production of materials for both internal and external exams, updating and creating training materials, provide expertise and support for the business line. Analyze various State and Federal regulations to determine the relevance to business lines.
Primary Responsibilities:
Partners closely with business units and compliance teams to monitor, track, and report on regulatory issues, driving accountability and supporting remediation efforts to mitigate risk
Serve as a primary consultant with managers of business units on business compliance matters
Manage the analysis and interpretation of Federal and State laws in conjunction with Compliance Risk Management to ensure consistency and actions consistent with M&T's risk appetite
Support business line by providing technical compliance expertise in furthering business line initiatives, including the development and revamping of products, and resolving issues to ensure policies, procedures and controls result in material compliance.
Ensure all activities are appropriately vetted and approved by Compliance Risk Management, as appropriate.
Leads the development and ongoing maintenance of documentation that evidences business adherence to state-specific regulatory requirements, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and audit readiness across applicable jurisdictions.
Prepare and present updates and communication to various levels of management.
Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the laws, rules and regulations with which the business must comply and an awareness of issues of recent regulatory focus
Escalate issues to management as appropriate
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:
May provide work leadership
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Minimum five years’ relevant industry experience, to include one year of compliance experience. Demonstrated knowledge of risk management strategies and the financial industry
Education and Experience Preferred:
Thorough technical operational risk/compliance knowledge.
Strong project management skills.
Strong and proven ability to integrate sound compliance controls into business plans.
Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills
Ability to work well with all levels of management. Must possess self-motivation and organizational skills.
Four years’ supervisory / work leadership experience preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail.
Four years’ departmental experience preferred.
Solid working knowledge of personal computers and software utilized by the Division.
