Senior Accountant

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Accountant to manage financial accounting, statement preparation, and period close processes for a portfolio of hotels. This role involves significant interaction with Operations and Executive leadership, requiring strong analytical and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage financial accounting, statement preparation, and period close processes.
  • Perform month, quarter, and year-end close entries, including calculation and recording of management fees, reserves, depreciation, payroll, and other necessary journal entries and accruals.
  • Monitor and reconcile cash and FF&E balances with lending institutions, ensuring compliance with operating and loan agreements.
  • Review and reconcile hotel intercompany accounts, discussing cash transfers with the Senior Accounting Manager.
  • Prepare Hotel Owner Franchise invoices, calculate royalty accruals, and process payments.
  • Prepare and submit sales/use tax returns and process payments for applicable states and counties.
  • Coordinate and communicate period-end close checklists and deadlines with hotel GMs and field associates.
  • Assist in the implementation of ongoing, annual, and strategic planning processes.
  • Partner with the CFO to design and support Operating and Capital Budgets.
  • Engage in and facilitate monthly team meetings, supporting Operations and Executive leadership on business issues.
  • Manage hotel portfolio cash accounts, investor reporting, and quarterly distribution processes.
  • Contribute to the professional development of team members and colleagues, facilitating training and development activities.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential, current or in process, is highly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with M3 accounting platform is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle challenging situations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Master's degree in business, accounting, or finance is highly preferred.
  • Experience at a public accounting firm is preferred.
  • Experience in the hospitality or travel-related industry is a plus.
  • Knowledge of treasury and cash management, and debt agreements.

Work Environment

This role requires working onsite for the first few months, with the option for one remote workday afterward. The position operates from 8-5 pm or 9-6 pm, with early office closure at 1 pm during the summer. The dress code is business casual. The department consists of both a payroll specialist and a hotel team, with opportunities for alignment and succession planning.

This is a Permanent position based out of Frederick, Maryland.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
