GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and security of McLennan Community College's students, faculty, and staff. This role also involves upholding the laws of the State of Texas, as well as enforcing the policies and guidelines established by the College. This position reports to the Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police and exercises no supervision. Employee may not exceed 19.5 hours per week.
REGULAR WORK HOURS: Friday and Saturday 11:00 PM - 9:00 AM.
Note: Hours may vary; must be available for some flexible scheduling.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Knowledge of: 1. Applicable laws, local ordinances, and college policies relevant to campus safety and security; 2. Standard security operations, protocols, and procedures used to maintain a safe environment; 3 The principles and best practices involved in delivering effective customer service and personal assistance; 4. The functions and operations of telecommunications systems, including transmission, broadcasting, switching, and control mechanisms; Skills in: 5. Clear and concise written and verbal communication; 6. Understanding and following complex instructions accurately; 7. Active listening and responding appropriately to the needs and concerns of others; 8. Conducting surveillance and observing situations with attention to detail; 9. Applying safety management practices to promote a secure environment; 10. Preparing accurate and detailed reports related to incidents and daily activities; 11. Balancing various responsibilities and adjusting to shifting priorities as needed; Ability to: 12. Complete and file daily reports accurately and in a timely manner; 13. Operate police radios, cell phones, and other communication equipment effectively; 14. Identify issues, analyze situations, and implement effective solutions; 15. Resolve conflicts and facilitate consensus through constructive discussion and negotiation; 16. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, and the public; 17. Operate patrol vehicles safely and perform routine daily maintenance checks; 18. Meet the physical and mental demands required to perform the duties of a security officer.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exertive - Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward postures and work positions; Sustained activities require strength (e.g. using tools); Frequent moderate lifting (50-75 lbs.); Significant Risk-Significant risk of injury or loss of life, which can be partially controlled by use of significant safety precautions. In addition, actions can result in significant risk to others.
BENEFITS:
Part-Time Retirement. Participation in Medicare Part A, but not Social Security (FICA).
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education : High school diploma or GED.
Experience: More than one year of professional, relevant experience.
License or Certificate : Possession of, or ability to obtain Level 2 and Level 3 security training, certifications within 6 months of start date. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under college automobile policy with an ability to maintain insurability.
