The Retail Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of retail construction projects from inception to completion. This role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of construction processes, retail design requirements, and project management best practices. The Retail Construction Manager will work closely with various stakeholders, including architects, contractors, and retail executives, to ensure that projects are executed on time, within budget, and in alignment with the company's vision and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning and Development:
- Review detailed project plans, millwork shop drawings, creating project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations
- Collaborate with in-house architects and designers to ensure compliance with retail design specifications and brand standards.
2. Management and Coordination:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction teams, subcontractors, and vendors; general contractors, FF&E contractors, and local handyman services.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, ensure quality standards, and address any issues that arise.
3. Budget and Financial Oversight:
- Manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial constraints.
- Review and approve invoices and change orders, maintaining accurate financial records.
4. Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all construction activities are conducted in compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Promote a culture of safety on-site and conduct regular safety audits.
5. Communication and Reporting:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all project-related communications, providing regular updates to the VP, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare comprehensive project reports detailing progress, challenges, and solutions.
6. Problem Solving and Adaptability:
- Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Adapt to changing project requirements and maintain flexibility in managing multiple priorities.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction management and project management within the retail sector specific to tenant coordination and/or tenant build out including a full understanding of retail FF&E installations.
- Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient in project management software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite. Procore Administrator, and Monday.com experience is a must!
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations specific to retail environments.
Working Conditions:
The Retail Construction Manager position will require very frequent visits to project construction sites. The role may require extended hours and extensive travel within the United States.
