Role Description
We are seeking part-time Research Assistants to join our team for a 6-month project. This is a paid position (~$1,000/month stipend) , hybrid in San Jose, CA with flexibility for remote work.
Depending on background and interest, selected candidates may work in one or more of the following areas:
AI/ML and Software Development → Algorithms, autonomy, and decision-making systems
Simulation and Modeling → Drone environments, physics models, and performance testing
Communications and Networking → Wireless, mesh, and secure data links for drones
Cybersecurity → Security tools, encryption, and data protection methods
Systems Integration → Bringing together hardware, software, and interfaces
UI/UX Design → Operator dashboards and control systems
Hardware and Testbed Support → Small drone hardware, sensors, electronics, and flight test prep
Documentation and Reporting → Reports, visuals, and research deliverables
Qualifications
Pursuing or completed coursework in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, Cybersecurity, Robotics, or related fields
Interest or experience in drones, robotics, or AI systems
Strong analytical, research, and communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
Requirements
Must be 18 years or older
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance if required
Bay Area students preferred (priority for local candidates for lab-based testing)
Opportunities for Growth
Selected candidates may take on team lead responsibilities depending on performance and experience
Outstanding performance may lead to consideration for future full-time opportunities as the program grows
Compensation and Commitment
Stipend: ~$1,000/month ($6,000 total for 6 months)
Part-time: ~10–15 hrs/week
