Purpose
The Assistant Store Manager works closely with the Store Manager in the day-to-day operations including customer service, team building, merchandising, marketing opportunities, inventory management, and opening/closing the store.
Classification
· Status : Full Time, Benefit Eligible
· Reports To : Store Manager
· Schedule : Required availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays
· Manage Operations
o Ensure a consistent excellence of customer service and resolve escalated issues
o Open and close the store
o Receive deliveries and stock sales floor in a timely manner
o Plan, promote, and coordinate events; report event profitability: maintain event calendar
o Oversee retail inventory and restocking
o Oversee store window and showroom floor set monthly updates
o Lead a robust training program for retail store associates on gear, apparel, policies, procedures; recognize and suggest additional trainings
o Demonstrate desired behaviors for staff including driving sales, handling difficult and/or complicated sales, cash management, inventory, and follow-up with customers
o Create and manage shift schedules; verify hours worked for payroll
o Lead monthly retail contests
o Leverage individual staff strengths, encouraging employee development and motivation
o Supervise staff for productivity and adherence to store regulations; ensure that healthy, safety, and security rules are followed; notice and promptly correct any negative behavior; escalate discipline to Store Manager
· Support Sales Manager & Company Objectives
o Serve as Manager of the Day when Sales Manager is not present
o Support Store Manager with reporting, purchase order, and weekly fill in duties as needed
o Work closely with the store manager to support recruiting efforts
o Build, adapt, and maintain tools and reports
o Suggest strategies for process improvements
o Develop and maintain documentation and standards
o Support change management processes within the department
o Provide support and advice on cross-functional projects
o Participate in team meetings; provide knowledge, support, and advice for interdepartmental process improvements, projects, or policy revisions
· Perform other related duties and projects as assigned
Requirements
· Education/Certifications
o High School Diploma or equivalent
o 3 years working in a retail environment
o Experience leading a team; enforcing and maintaining company policies and procedures; creating and maintaining employee scheduling
o Ability to learn new computer programs and software
o Proficient understanding of the financial and business acumen to drive store profitability
o Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office Suite or related software
o Intermediate expertise in excel and word
o Intermediate mathematics and reporting
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills
o Ability to learn quickly; creatively solve new problems
o Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
o Proficient interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
o Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate staff
o Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to efficiently manage multiple, concurrent, time-sensitive projects and priorities
· Physical Effort
o Prolonged periods standing
o Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times
o Regular interaction with the public
