Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
Current unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
Residency Training: Completed approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification, as recognized by the VA.
Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed physicians and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Additional Requirement: Board certified or eligible in internal medicine.
Physical Standards: Must meet physical requirements, including passing a physical exam and drug testing, and ability to lift 15-44 pounds, perform certain physical tasks, and have adequate vision and hearing.
Duties
This is an open continuous announcement, remaining open until July 7, 2025, with initial and subsequent cut-off dates for applications.
Provides comprehensive medical care to Veterans, including assessment, ordering diagnostics, treatments, and documentation.
Performs procedures such as joint injections, laceration repair, and wound debridement.
Supervises residents and collaborates with an interdisciplinary team.
Participates in system redesign activities, attends meetings, and performs other duties as assigned.
