Job Summary:The Specialty / Retail Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely and accurate delivery of specialty medications to patients. by assisting in the preparation of medications for dispensation by the pharmacist, managing inventory, coordinating prior authorizations, and providing exceptional service to patients and healthcare providers. The technician ensures that all activities are performed in compliance with regulatory guidelines, policies, and procedures.Responsibilities:Operational Support:Accurately prepare new and refill prescriptions, ensuring compliance with Specialty Pharmacy policies and regulatory guidelinesTranscribe incoming prescription orders and manage documentation within designated pharmacy systemsAssist pharmacists with compounding and preparing pharmaceuticals according to established protocolsMaintain accurate inventory management, ensuring stock is rotated properly and stored under appropriate conditionsMonitor supply levels to minimize waste, prevent stock-outs, and manage purchasing to optimize inventory costs Patient Care & Customer Service:Provide exceptional customer service to patients, clinic staff, and other healthcare providers, addressing questions regarding insurance coverage, billing, and patient costs.Coordinate with patients to schedule prescription refills, manage delivery logistics, and ensure updated billing information.Support specialty medication adherence by monitoring refills and proactively managing gaps in therapy.Serve as a primary contact for patients and clinic staff, managing urgent requests and ensuring smooth communication between the pharmacy and clinical teamsExercise sound judgement in the escalation of clinical questions to the pharmacist on dutyPrior Authorization & Billing Management:Initiate and manage prior authorization requests for specialty medications, tracking expiring authorizations and renewalsReview claims and rejections to determine required follow-up, ensuring timely resolution to maintain continuity of careManage daily billing operations, including submission of claims and coordination with prior authorization technicians as neededProcess patient payments at the designated Point of Sale (POS) system for specialty prescriptions Compliance & Quality Assurance:Ensure all activities are compliant with HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid billing regulations, and the 340B Drug Pricing ProgramParticipate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of pharmacy servicesMaintain cleanliness, organization, and compliance within all assigned work areas according to internal and external standardsAccurately document all activities and communications within the appropriate pharmacy systemsQualifications/Requirements:Education:Required:High school diploma or GED .Preferred:Completion of an ASHP- accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Experience:Required:Strong proficiency in data entry and pharmacy software systemsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsPreferred:Minimum of two years of experience in a pharmacy or healthcare settingUnderstanding of outpatient, retail, or specialty pharmacy operations Licensure & Certification:Required:Current licensure as a New York State Registered Pharmacy Technician and active PTCB or NHA CPhT certificationPreferred:340B UniversityAdditional Information: Reports to: Associate Director - Pharmacy OperationsSchedule: Full-time, with potential weekend and holiday shifts as needed.Opportunities for Growth and Collaboration: Involvement in advanced clinical research, teaching, leadership roles, and expanded responsibilities in other departmental areas.Job Summary:The Specialty / Retail Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
