Nurse Job Qualifications: Must possess a current license to practice as an RN or LPN in the state of Illinois.
Preferred to have previous wound care experience.
Preferred to have wound care certifications.
Nurse Job Overview:
The Nurse position reports to and receives general direction from the Director of Nursing. At times, while the wound care nurse is off, this nurse position will be responsible for delivering quality wound care and preventative measures to maintain skin integrity to assigned residents in compliance with applicable federal and state guidelines and established policies and procedures. The nurse should be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN).
Nurse Job Duties:
Regular Nursing Care Responsibilities Prepare and administer medication as ordered by the physician.
Review medication orders for completeness of information and accuracy.
Transcribe physician orders.
Document all resident information as necessary, notifying physician and family as needed.
Assist in the Admission/Discharge process.
Complete accident/incident reports, follow up investigation process.
Be familiar with the care planning process and participate in care conferences, updating as needed.
Develop and maintain a good working rapport with all disciplines to ensure that all aspects of resident needs can be adequately maintained.
Should be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Be willing to participate in continuing education programs.
Wound Care Responsibilities Administer treatments and procedures in accordance with the physician's orders.
Ensure that residents are medicated prior to treatments when appropriate
Observe and document resident's response to treatment at a minimum weekly and as needed.
Ensure proper disposal of treatment supplies.
Ensure adequate levels of treatment ointments, supplies and equipment are available at all times.
Report any needs to the Director of Nursing.
Handle any emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner.
Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident while performing treatments.
Interact with residents in a manner that displays warmth and promotes a caring environment.
Maintain a comprehensive understanding and adherence to all aspects of resident rights. including the right to be free of abuse.
Promptly report to the Administrator all incidents or evidence of resident abuse or violation of resident's rights.
Assist with orienting residents and families to the wound care process upon admission.
Promptly report injuries of unknown origin to the Floor Nurse and Director of Nursing, including skin tears.
Communicate and interact effectively, courteously, and tactfully with residents, visitors, family members, peers, and supervisors.
