Description: The Lead Surgical Assistant is responsible for leading the surgical team and assisting the oral surgeons in providing exceptional patient care. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a comprehensive understanding of oral surgery procedures. The Lead Surgical Assistant will oversee the daily operations of the surgical team, maintain a sterile field, manage equipment, and ensure all clinical procedures are performed safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Team Leadership and Development: - Lead and mentor a team of surgical assistants, providing ongoing training and support. - Manage the daily schedule of the surgical team and allocate tasks efficiently. - Serve as the primary point of contact for surgical assistants and ensure smooth communication with the surgical team. - Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and patient-centered care. 2. Surgical Assistance: - Prepare patients for oral surgery procedures, ensuring they are comfortable and well-informed. - Assist the oral surgeon during procedures, ensuring the sterile field is maintained, and provide necessary instruments and supplies. - Manage surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and storage. - Provide post-operative care and instructions to patients, ensuring a smooth transition to recovery. 3. Patient Care and Safety: - Ensure patient comfort and safety throughout their surgical experience. - Monitor patients’ vital signs and address any concerns during and after surgery. - Provide compassionate care, addressing any patient or family concerns with professionalism. 4. Clinical Operations and Compliance: - Maintain an organized and well-stocked inventory of surgical supplies. - Ensure the surgical suite adheres to all OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory standards. - Collaborate with office management to optimize surgical scheduling and resource allocation.
Requirements: Required Skills and Qualifications: - Minimum of 3 years of experience as a surgical assistant in an oral surgery or dental setting. - Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to manage a clinical team. - DAANCE or other relevant certifications preferred. - Current CPR and First Aid certification. - Proficiency in surgical procedures, instrument handling, and patient care. - Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to stand for extended periods and assist in surgeries. - Must be able to lift and move equipment or assist patients as needed.
