ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE

The Virtual Care BH Physician Assistant works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare by providing excellent behavioral health services within a dynamic team environment. This role will provide virtual BH services to patients under the direction and responsibility of Physicians in three main categories: direct patient care, team support, triage of BH patients, and clinical administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnostic assessment, medication management, medication assisted treatments, psychoeducation, and follow-up to patients under direction and supervision of psychiatrists, and/or triage and refer to the appropriate level of care.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs when appropriate.
  • Participates in the credentialing process with managed care companies by providing personal information, as needed.
  • Participates in process and program quality improvement initiatives to improve care for patients.
  • Participates in patient case conferences and departmental/agency meetings, as directed.
  • Impacts patient experience by demonstrating courteous and helpful behavior and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Completes patient medical record documentation according to company policies and procedures or refers to appropriate department within NHC for these to be completed.
  • Shares accountability for overall patient health outcomes by working in coordination with Care Teams.
  • Operates to instill confidence in our care and in our facilities to patients, fellow employees, and other stakeholders.

TEAM SUPPORT

CLINICAL ADMINISTRATION

  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care
  • Performs in accordance with NHC practice protocols and under the guidance and supervision of the supervising MD(s), according to the terms of the Supervisory Agreement
  • Keeps informed of organizational activities and promote mission and goals
  • Functions at highest level according to credentials and competency

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree and completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Valid CA Physician Assistant license required
  • Psychiatric Certified Added Qualifications (CAQ) preferred
  • Valid DEA license
  • Valid BLS certification from approved American Health Association provider required upon hire
  • Completion of advanced pharmacology course with class II controlled substances required

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of healthcare professionals
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Knowledgeable about and experience with clinical evidence-based obesity management practices
  • Knowledgeable about and experience with current research and trends in obesity management
  • Ability to work with diverse patient populations
  • Ability to work in an advanced capacity in electronic medical records, email, video conferencing systems, and common office software
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent planning and organizational ability
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information in a professional and ethical manner

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/carry 25 lbs/weight
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

COMPLIANCE (Safety & HIPPA)

  • Follows all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintains current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices

  • Uses appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environment
  • Familiarity with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits
  • Follows all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols
  • Maintains privacy of all patients, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposes
  • Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations
  • Reports all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful

Pay range: $135,400-$211,200 per year, depending on experience.

Compensation Disclosure: The posted salary range reflects the designated pay grade for this position. While this range represents the broader classification of the role, actual compensation will be based on several factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s overall knowledge, skills, and experience, market data and industry benchmarks, internal equity within the organization, Budgetary considerations and organizational needs. As a result, placement within the range is not guaranteed, and the full pay grade range may not be utilized.
