Job Title: Lead CNC Programmer

Department: Machining

Reports to: Laser & Tube Bender Manager

Location: Onsite, Hillsboro, OR

Job Summary:

As our CNC (computer numerically controlled) LEAD Programmer, you will work with machinery that cuts raw materials into functional items. You are responsible for interpreting project blueprints, designing programs, and setting up machines to produce the component outlined in the program. You must perform test runs and adjust until the resulting product meets blueprint specifications. You are also charged with performing machine maintenance and cleaning.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise production output of your respective team
  • Lead team in continuous improvement activities
  • Coordinates activities of employees in the CNC Machining area
  • Responsible for activities of the team including scheduling of work, quality checks, development, ongoing training, mentorship and adherence to safety requirements
  • Read technical drawings and set up the machines in accordance with these blueprints
  • Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly
  • Perform quality assurance tests to ensure products meet design specifications
  • Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality
  • Consider tools required to cut materials and program machines accordingly
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with machines as they arise
  • Perform basic machine maintenance such as cleaning and sharpening
  • Train new employees on how to properly operate CNC machines and programs

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing setting is required
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity and skill with interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
  • Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving mechanical or logistical problems that arise
  • Ability to work independently and closely follow directions is essential
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • Available to work weekends and overtime as needed

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5+ years’ experience as a CNC machinist preferred doing setup and programming on multi-axis machines
  • Able to read blueprints, Use of SolidWorks and CAM systems
  • Knowledge of Machining in a prototype manufacturing setting or related experience and education.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, stand or sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift to 40 pounds at time.
