Basic Function: Under the general supervision of the Financial Director, the Staff Jr. Accountant provides PR & A/P recurring activities/entries, to subsidiaries/feeder systems.
Position Reports To: Financial Director
Responsibilities: Payroll: works closely with organization employees to collect relevant documents I-9, W4, benefits paperwork, etc. Paperwork that guarantees paychecks are issued promptly. Processing Payroll: The duty is to process payrolls for all employees. This includes calculating hours worked, deductions, overtime, and reimbursements weekly. Confidentiality: Payroll specialists handle sensitive personal and financial data, so they must be trustworthy and maintain high standards of confidentiality. Time Management Skills: Payroll tasks are often time-sensitive, with strict deadlines for when employees must be paid. Accounts Payables Process vendor invoices and expense reports in a timely manner. Verify accuracy of invoices and resolve any discrepancies. Prepare and perform weekly check runs. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any outstanding issues. Assist with month-end closing activities related to grant drawdowns. Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all payables. Accounts Payable: post invoices, bills and reimbursement requests. Help prepare for programmatic/financial audits. Create and maintain a variety of spreadsheets. File correspondence, invoices, receipts, and other records in alphabetical or numerical order or according to the filing system used. Locate and remove material from file when requested. Create and maintain filing system. Other duties as assigned.
15-20 Hours Per Week Required
Minimum Qualifications: Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications: Qualifications Summary: Going towards Bachelor'/master's degree in business with emphasis in accounting. Ability to establish goals and objectives, organize activities and projects, implement appropriate systems, work independently, and demonstrate good judgment. Competency with computer equipment and software and other electronic devices to perform work effectively and efficiently. Knowledge of Quick-books, Microsoft Word, Excel, and accounting software. Excellent analytical and organizational abilities. Skilled in Excel. Skilled in maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
