Job Summary Under the general direction of the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, the Head of Retail shapes the visitor retail experience by creating a unique and engaging environment that complements the Museum's mission and exhibition schedule. The Head of Retail manages a profitable retail operation, expanding community engagement and developing a strong, unique identity for the HoMA Shop, overseeing its overall operation and performance.

The ideal candidate will bring a creative, entrepreneurial spirit to their activities, including management of the HoMA shop, product and vendor selection, new merchandise development, administrative reporting, and inventory control.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or relevant education and experience

Five years of retail management, including staff supervision, hiring, training, and performance evaluations

Five years of experience with POS systems, inventory management, and data analysis

Ability to plan merchandise and shop events aligned with the Museum calendar and community trends

Experience in visual merchandising and sales optimization

Effective communication skills within teams and across departments

Good judgment and composure in challenging situations

Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic

Ability to support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and staff

Leadership skills to build and develop a diverse team

Desired Qualifications

Five years in art, craft, gallery, or museum retail

Knowledge of online sales platforms and website management

Experience in a museum or nonprofit setting

Understanding of the Museum's identity and mission

Essential Duties

Develop and implement merchandise plans supporting the Museum's mission and profitability

Create displays to maximize sales

Curate merchandise that complements exhibitions and collections

Manage budgets and monitor shop profitability

Coordinate with marketing and programming departments

Plan and manage store events that reflect the Museum's mission

Collaborate with artists for proprietary merchandise

Oversee financial reporting and inventory management

Update the store website with new products

Lead a team with recruitment, training, and professional development

Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team and store operations

Compensation and Benefits The salary range is $70,000 to $80,000 per year, with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, retirement plans, discounts, and onsite parking.

Working Conditions Office environment with flexible hours, some evening and weekend work, and physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Ability to operate office equipment.
