Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President and GM - US Operations, the Flex Operations Manager is responsible for product engineering, assembly, installation, and problem-solving/improvement to achieve revenue, cost, growth, efficiency, productivity, and on-time delivery metrics. This position will be responsible for daily activities supporting internal and external customers as well as production teammates. This individual will partner with all functions within the business to develop, drive, and implement actions to achieve business plan commitments as well as drive Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost and Growth across engineering and manufacturing operations for brand equipment.
The ideal candidate will be a driven, results-oriented individual with proven leadership skills and a track record of managing, motivating, and developing individuals and teams in a technical based engineer-to-order environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy:
- Provide team direction, alignment, and communication on operational strategy and performance
- Establish and maintain appropriate systems and processes for achieving and measuring operational performance and productivity. Drive accountability to ensure achievement of business results
- Establish operating budgets; monitor the cost and effectiveness of production activities to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and achieve volume, quality, and manufacturing standards
- Recommend manufacturing objectives for business planning purposes, capital expenditures, budgetary requirements, etc. Establishes and ensures achievement of manufacturing department objectives
Team Management:
- Responsible for goal setting and providing direction/guidance, and coaching to ensure achievement of the goals.
- Responsible for development/training/succession planning to increase bench strength of the team.
- Support team environment and promote a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement.
- Promote culture of safety and drive accountability to maintain zero accident environment and ensure safe and suitable work environment for teammates, vendors, suppliers, and visitors.
Engineering/Assembly:
- Oversee management of mechanical and electrical areas of engineering, product assembly and activities so that schedules are met and are within quality standards, safety policies and cost objectives.
- Identify warranty issues and implement corrective actions and processes.
- Responsible for savings/cost opportunity analysis, and the implementation and management of cost improvement measures.
- Lead Factory Acceptance Testing to ensure problem-free installation and start up.
Installation:
- Responsible for successful execution of equipment installations, operational delivery, project quality and customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with Project Management and Installation Teams to ensure installations are properly planning and executed to the customer's schedule and expectation.
- Interact with customers and ensure successful FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests) on AMF sites as well as SATs (Site Acceptance Tests).
- Proactively support resource needs for installations as needed.
- Ensure field feedback is collected and shared with engineering and/or assembly to enable problem solving .
MBS (Markel Business System):
- Drive operational excellence and achieve sustainable results through continuous improvement programs and lean manufacturing (kaizen, problem-solving, 5S, value steam mapping)
Required Knowledge/Skills & Experience
- BS or BA Degree required
- Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred
- Operations experience in an "engineer to order" or "configure to order" environment
- Demonstrated proficiency applying Lean principles in a variety of settings and situations
- Able to think strategically and view the business from a general management perspective
- Customer focused with strong interpersonal and communications skills
- High energy and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Adaptability to change
- Independence and good judgment, positive attitude, and an innovative spirit
- Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management
