Pay: Starting rate of between $20-$24/hour based on experience (competitive against local industry norms)
Hours: M-F between 7:00am to 3:30pm (with a 45 minute lunch) and two weekends per month. You must have flexibility to shift start and end times based on business need. When you work a weekend, you can request 1-2 days off during the week or work shorter days and shift your schedule around throughout the week so you have at least 24 hours off in between your shifts. Your hours will be kept to 38.75 hours a week, and adjustments will be made to your schedule to make sure you are not working more than 40 hours whenever possible. Working up to 50 hours per week may be needed once in awhile depending on the season and team availability.

Pawsitive Dawg Walking and Pet Sitting is looking for an Assistant General Manager (AGM) who can balance hands-on pet care with big-picture leadership, overseeing managers, tracking projects, and ensuring our standards are consistently met.
We are a force-free, fear-free pet care company serving Waltham, MA and surrounding areas. Our mission is to provide exceptional care that nurtures the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of pets while supporting a happy, collaborative team.
This role blends pet care services, team leadership, and operational management, offering a clear growth path into advanced certifications and leadership development.
Key Responsibilities
Management and Operations (about 40% of Role): Oversee managers, team leads, and daily operations to ensure projects and goals are met, provide guidance and quality control for staff, manage scheduling and administrative needs, and maintain clear, positive communication with clients to deliver exceptional service.
Leadership & Project Oversight
Supervise all Managers and Team Leads to ensure projects and goals are completed on time
Track and report progress on company-wide initiatives, ensuring accountability and quality outcomes
Facilitate clear communication across departments and help remove operational roadblocks
Step in as acting manager when coverage or guidance is needed
Team Support & Quality Control Be the daily go-to for managers and team members needing support or guidance
Shadow staff for quality checks and provide constructive, encouraging feedback
Assist with training and onboarding new team members to company standards
Promote a positive, growth-minded team culture
Scheduling & Administrative Support Monitor daily schedules and ensure adequate coverage, including weekends and holidays
Assist in planning for high-volume periods and coordinating resources accordingly
Maintain accurate internal records, documentation, and operational checklists
Client Communication Respond to client messages with warmth, clarity, and professionalism
Coordinate visit details, follow-ups, and service adjustments
Help strengthen long-term client relationships through exceptional service
Pet Care Services (about 60% of Role): Provide dog walking, dog sitting, cat sitting, and small critter visits while delivering consistent, compassionate, and safe care following fear-free principles, building trusting relationships with pets and clients, and stepping in for last-minute or emergency coverage when needed.
Weather Warrior: Walk dogs for 15 minutes up to an hour in all New England weather conditions, covering up to 6 miles/day; travel to and from cat visits regardless of weather
Pet Care Duties: Feed pets, administer medications, clean litter boxes, pick up pet waste, clean up accidents/vomit, and engage pets in enrichment or play
Animal Advocate: Give every pet your full attention; ensure cats are visually accounted for before leaving; provide safe and positive walking/hiking experiences for dogs
Safety First: Keep pets safe and secure at all times; ensure client homes are locked and secure
Clean & Green: Properly dispose of all pet waste to maintain a safe, clean environment
Daily Updates: Provide visit notes and at least one photo in our scheduling app after each service to confirm completion and share updates
What We're Looking For Someone who loves a flexible schedule and is available and comfortable to work between 37 to 50 hours per week, earning overtime pay for anything over 40 hours
3+ years of proven leadership or supervisory experience (multi-team oversight a plus)
Background in pet care, veterinary, shelter, or related animal services preferred
Strong project management skills: organized, deadline-driven, and adaptable
Excellent communication and conflict-resolution abilities
Tech-savvy with comfort using Google Workspace, scheduling software, and other softwares
Valid driver's license and car insurance, reliable transportation, and ability to travel locally
Willingness to work two weekends per month, some holidays, and handle urgent coverage needs
Passion for fear-free, force-free pet care
Compensation & Benefits We pay you by the service + mileage reimbursement (when not using company vehicle) + cell phone stipend + tech stipend + wellness stipend + 100% tips but there is a minimum guaranteed hourly rate of between $20-$24/hr based on experience

Must have a car with valid driver's license and automobile insurance
We assign visits within 5 miles of our staff's home so employees must live within 15 minutes of our service area (Waltham, Belmont, Watertown)

Must commit to always being available for last minute visits (unless sick or previously requested off) during their agreed upon hours
Occasional evening hours for client interviews may be necessary
