Incumbents prepare regular and special meals for clients and staff in an institutional setting. You will be a key player in ensuring high-quality food is served safely and efficiently. A Food Handler's permit is required for this position. Benefits Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP): 3 medical plan options. Choose a Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. There is an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those who have other medical insurance coverage. 5 dental plan options, with an Opt-Out Cash Benefit option for those that have other dental insurance coverage. 2 vision plan options under EyeMed Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS) : Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System. Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k)) Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Responsibilities Example of Tasks: Ensure food is maintained at appropriate temperatures, covering and storing leftovers, and recording serving temperatures and quantities. Prepare salads, garnishes, and assist in basic food preparation or ordering. Cook, bake, or serve regular and/or special meals to clients and staff. Coordinate an inventory management system to effectively control and distribute supplies and equipment. Clean, sterilize, and disinfect areas and equipment. Assist customers in finding products, making selections, and purchasing items. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Oral Comprehension: The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Oral Expression: The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Food Production: Knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting food products (both plant and animal) for consumption, including storage/handling techniques. Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate. Monitoring: Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. Supplemental Information Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

I have extensive experience preparing regular and special meals in an institutional or commercial setting. I have some experience preparing meals but have not worked in an institutional setting. I have limited experience with cooking and food preparation but am a quick learner. I have no prior experience in food preparation.

We prepare large-batch meals and work closely as a team. How comfortable are you with this type of environment? I thrive in fast-paced, collaborative kitchen environments and enjoy large-batch cooking. I'm comfortable with team-based work and learning large-batch cooking methods. I prefer working independently but am willing to adapt to a team setting. I have limited experience with large-batch cooking or team-based kitchen work.

This role involves coordinating an inventory management system. How would you describe your experience with inventory and supply management? I have significant experience with inventory management, including controlling and distributing supplies and equipment. I have some experience with inventory management and am comfortable learning a new system. I have limited experience with inventory, but I am detail-oriented and willing to learn. I have no experience with inventory management.

Maintaining cleanliness, safety, and food presentation are top priorities. Which statement best reflects your approach? I meticulously follow all cleanliness and safety protocols and take pride in food presentation. I understand the importance of cleanliness and safety and strive for good presentation. I focus primarily on food preparation but also understand the need for cleanliness I rely on others to handle most of the cleaning and safety aspects.

The role requires being physically active and able to lift up to 50 lbs. Which best describes your physical capability for this role? I am fully capable of lifting 50 lbs and staying active throughout a shift. I can lift up to 50 lbs but may need occasional breaks during active shifts. I can handle light lifting and moderate activity, but 50 lbs is a stretch. I have physical limitations that would prevent me from lifting 50 lbs or staying active for long periods.

Our kitchen environment sometimes requires adapting to unforeseen changes (e.g., staffing, menu). How do you typically react to such situations? I embrace change cheerfully and am always ready to adjust my tasks and schedule as needed. I can adapt to changes, though I prefer a consistent routine. I find sudden changes challenging but will do my best to manage. I prefer to stick to my assigned duties and find it difficult to adapt to last-minute changes.

We require a Utah Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe certification. What is your current status regarding this requirement? I currently hold a valid Utah Food Handler's Permit or ServSafe certification. I do not have the certification yet but am willing to obtain it immediately upon hire. I am considering getting certified but haven't made firm plans yet. I'm not familiar with these certifications.
