Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Fleet Mechanic/Fleet Manager to join our team in Tampa, FL. This dual-role position combines hands-on vehicle and equipment maintenance with fleet administration responsibilities. You will ensure our diverse fleet-including pickups, bucket trucks, digger derricks, excavators, and trailers-operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate maintenance activities while managing fleet data and compliance documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections, diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on heavy vehicles and utility equipment, including hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Perform DOT inspections and ensure all fleet vehicles (Class 1-8) meet safety and compliance standards.
- Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and ensure adherence to federal, state, and company regulations.
- Coordinate repairs with operations to minimize vehicle downtime and optimize fleet performance.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot complex engine and system issues.
- Perform minor body repairs and welding as needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following OSHA and safety procedures.
- Stay current on emerging vehicle technologies through ongoing training.
- Manage inventory of repair parts and tools, and organize the shop area for safety and efficiency.
- Administer fleet data in Fleetio, Samsara, and other platforms-updating vehicle information, crew rosters, and related data.
- Oversee records management, DOT and IFTA compliance, licensing, and fuel card administration.
- Facilitate weekly equipment billing, validation, and reporting.
- Organize vehicle registrations, renewals, plate/sticker replacements, and title work.
- Collaborate with management, foremen, and field crews to support fleet operations.
- Coordinate EZ Pass reports, replenishments, and ordering.
- Assist with new equipment setup, including upfit organization and documentation for finance.
- Support storm billing and provide reports and data analysis for fleet planning.
- Assist Fleet Operations Manager with forecasting and operational planning.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on mechanic experience; experience with Freightliner, Cummins, Altec, Terex, Chevrolet, Vermeer preferred.
- Certifications such as ANSI & Dielectric Inspection are a plus.
- Valid own tools for vehicle repairs.
- Must be flexible with work hours, including overtime and road calls as necessary.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and maintaining regular attendance.
- Strong communication skills, with professional email correspondence.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and documentation.
- Valid driver's license required, prefer CDL
