Summary
Assists in managing and maintaining customer relationships. Responds to customer service requests and requirements as well as assists acquiring new business opportunities. Performs mechanical duties, testing and inspections as required on equipment in the SMS Valparaiso workshop and/or at a vendor facility. In this entry level position, more time will be spent in the SMS Valparaiso workshop initially, as the equipment learning process takes place. Time spent in the field, as well as customer responsibilities, will increase as this role moves away from entry level as experience is gained.
Duties and Responsibilities
Visit customers regularly for sales and service calls, ensuring that customers in designated sales areas are visited with a view to selling them SMS products and services
Identify customer needs and resources
Assist and solve customer’s problems / issues and liaison with SMS group divisions including plant personnel and management
Assists in initial customer contact, and receiving and expediting RFQ’s for proposal
Assist in customer follow up, including follow up of: quoting, order placement, job completion and delivery
Perform mechanical duties; Disassemble, assemble and test equipment in the SMS Valparaiso workshop and/or vendor facilities
Perform fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment
Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects
Provide any additional support where needed
Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required

Job Qualifications
Must have related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to calculate figures and amounts
Must be able to read prints / drawings
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems
Knowledge of disassembly, assembly, machining and fabrication methods including MIG, SMAW & TIG welding practices
Knowledge of overhead crane, lift trucks and maintenance including hoisting and rigging techniques
Frequent travel within the North American region (USA, Canada, Mexico); Possible limited international travel. Travel can, at times, have a short notice window (customer emergencies / personnel needs). Travel is typically a few days to a week; Occasional extended periods of travel are possible.
Computer skills preferred: Microsoft Word / Excel / Outlook
Must have a valid driver’s license

Schedule
Full-Time, 8-hour shift
Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, with 30 minutes for lunch
