Field Service Technician (Elgin)

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Field Service Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex equipment at customer sites across the country (and potentially internationally). This role requires extensive travelup to 90%and involves working in diverse environments, often independently.
You will serve as a key technical ambassador for the company, ensuring optimal performance of our systems and building strong customer relationships through professional service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Perform installation, commissioning, and calibration of equipment at customer facilities.
Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance , troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and/or hydraulic systems.
Provide technical support and training to customers on-site.
Communicate effectively with internal teams (engineering, customer support, sales) and escalate technical issues as needed.
Document service activities, including trip reports , service logs, and recommended follow-ups.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety protocols, company policies, and customer requirements.
Maintain a professional image and deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
Maintain tools, test equipment, and spare parts inventory in ready-to-deploy condition.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree or technical certification in electronics, mechatronics, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
3+ years of hands-on field service or equipment maintenance experience.
Proficiency in reading mechanical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams , and technical manuals.
Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and control systems .
Comfortable with frequent, extended travel (air, car) and working in varied industrial or commercial environments.
Valid drivers license and clean driving record; ability to obtain a passport (if international travel is required).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PLC troubleshooting , automation systems , or industrial control panels .
Familiarity with tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and calibration equipment.
Experience with CRM or field service reporting tools (e.g., Salesforce, ServiceMax).
OSHA, MSHA, or other safety certifications a plus.
