Position Summary The mission of Creative Wheaton is to nurture creativity, promote economic vitality, and celebrate Wheaton’s rich global heritage by providing leadership and support for a wide array of arts and entertainment experiences.
The Executive Director will lead Creative Wheaton through its formative phase, providing strategic, operational, and administrative leadership inspired by the Main Street approach, which is a commitment to creating places of shared prosperity, equal access to opportunity, and inclusive engagement. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, community-focused leader with a passion for arts and culture and experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities Organizational Leadership:
Lead day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with Creative Wheaton’s mission and goals as defined by the Board of Directors.
Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors, providing updates, insights, and recommendations.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to support the organization’s growth.
Fundraising & Financial Management:
Lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and sponsorships.
Oversee financial management, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance in collaboration with the treasurer.
Ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
Collaborate with an external accountant on financial reports and annual returns.
Program Development & Management:
Develop, plan, and implement arts and culture programs that align with Creative Wheaton’s mission.
Evaluate and report on program effectiveness.
Foster partnerships with local artists, cultural organizations, businesses, and community groups.
Outreach & Community Engagement:
Serve as the public face of Creative Wheaton, representing the organization at events and in the community.
Develop and implement outreach strategies to engage diverse communities in Wheaton.
Promote Creative Wheaton through communications, social media, and marketing efforts.
Board Relations:
Support the Board in its governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the Board and staff.
Engage the Board in fundraising and outreach efforts.
Coordinate Board meetings, including the annual meeting.
Qualifications Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit or arts organization.
Proven success in fundraising, grant writing, and donor engagement.
Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and reporting.
Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a working board.
Passion for the arts and commitment to community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in leading a startup nonprofit organization.
Familiarity with Wheaton’s arts, culture, and business scene.
Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred.
Familiarity with relevant computer software and applications.
Work Environment Part-time position (20 hours per week) with flexible hours.
Remote and in-person work required, including attendance at community events and board meetings.
Compensation: $40,000/year
