POSITION SUMMARY : A Perioperative Environmental Services (EVS) Technician assigned to the Operating Room (OR) plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and aseptic environment following AORN standards and hospital policies. This position is responsible for the proper cleaning, disinfection, and turnover of surgical suites and related areas to prevent infection and support patient safety. The technician works closely with surgical and nursing staff to ensure timely and thorough cleaning between cases and at the end of the surgical day.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
OR Cleaning & Turnover Perform terminal and turnover cleaning of surgical suites, including all horizontal and vertical surfaces, lights, equipment, and floors.
Follow established infection prevention protocols for cleaning blood and body fluids.
Compliance with AORN & Infection Control Standards Adhere to AORN Recommended Practices for environmental cleaning in the perioperative setting.
Comply with hospital infection prevention guidelines.
Waste Management Properly handle and dispose of biohazardous waste, sharps containers, and soiled linens.
Ensure regulated medical waste is removed and transported following facility procedures.
Restocking & Supplies Replenish cleaning supplies, PPE, and paper goods in designated areas.
Report inventory needs to supervisor.
Selects cleaning materials and supplies and prepares solutions according to instructions and procedure in preparation for work.
Equipment Maintenance Use and maintain environmental cleaning equipment properly.
Report malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel.
Communication & Documentation Communicate effectively with OR staff for timing and coordination of room turnovers.
Document cleaning completion on departmental logs as required.
Support Role Assist in transporting clean equipment or supplies to and from the OR as directed.
Maintain cleanliness in adjacent areas, including corridors, sterile core, and scrub areas.
Have good communication skills and be able to interact with the team.
Be familiar with fire, electrical, laser, and explosion hazards in the operating room and other anesthesia-related areas.
Uses sterile technique and the principles of aseptic practice
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES :
Knowledge of aseptic techniques and hospital cleaning procedures.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized processes.
Ability to work in a high-paced environment and meet turnover time expectations.
Ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals.
Able to perform in a precise and accurate manner in handling priority tasks.
Supports and promotes safety standards, identifies risk situations, and intervenes appropriately.

Float to other areas of the hospital if needed during downtime or emergencies.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED/PREFERRED:
High School Diploma
1+ year of environmental services experience preferred.
Prior experience in a healthcare or perioperative setting is highly desirable.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Basic Life Support Certification within 90 days of hire into the position.
