Department: Emergency Department Location: Henry Ford West Bloomfield, 6777 W Maple Rd, West Bloomfield Township, MI 48322Schedule:36 hours per week, every other weekend and holiday rotationShift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AMAs an Emergency Room Technical Assistant, you'll work side-by-side with nurses and providers to deliver timely, compassionate care during critical moments. Under direct supervision, you'll assist with procedures, perform vital tasks, and help ensure smooth operations in one of the hospital's most dynamic environments.This is an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience while providing essential support to patients in urgent need.ABOUT OUR UNIT:Henry Ford West Bloomfield's Emergency Department is a Level III Trauma Center, certified stroke center, and state-certified heart attack treatment center. Our team includes board-certified physicians, nurses, and ER techs trained to deliver expert, compassionate care-whether for minor injuries or life-threatening emergencies. We use advanced technology and rapid-response protocols to treat strokes, heart attacks, trauma, and more, ensuring the highest level of care when seconds count.WHAT YOU'LL DO:Your day-to-day impact includes: Assist with patient assessments, exams, and treatments Perform clinical tasks such as:o Drawing blood & collecting specimenso Performing EKGso Applying splints or immobilizerso Taking vital signs (adult and pediatric)o Inserting NG tubes, urethral catheterso Starting and discontinuing IVs (as applicable) Prepare and assist with procedures including suturing, casting, pelvic exams, lumbar punctures, and more Recognize abnormal vitals or dysrhythmias and alert the RN/Provider immediately Provide patient and family support with professionalism and empathy Maintain equipment and supplies; clean and prepare rooms between patients Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and hospital standardsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School Diploma or GED required BLS Certification requiredPrevious experience in an Emergency Department or acute care setting is a strong plusCERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:Must meet one of the following criteria:Basic EMT (B-EMT) certificationGraduate of a formal Medical Assistant programCompletion of a formal nursing education programCompletion of a formal medical doctor education programOROne (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience (Must complete one of the above certifications/programs within 12 months of hire)Additional Requirements:EMT license preferredSuccessful completion of a 180-day orientation period is requiredPHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:Work will be performed in a health care setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases. Frequent walking, bending, and lifting are required to perform job duties.
