Job Title:

Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma; valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications:

High school diploma; valid drivers license; at least two years of experience working with individuals with physical, intellecatual, developmental, or other disabilities; at least two years of experience in a caregiver or similar role.

Reports To:

House Manager and/or DSP Lead (DSP-L)

Position Summary:

The Direct Support Professional will be involved in the general supervision, care, and activities of the individual(s) in the home and/or the community. These activities may include assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), providing supervision for health and safety, transporting individuals for appointments, and implementing support plans. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Hours Per Week:

Starting Wages:

$16.00 per hour for minimal qualifications

$18.00 per hour for preferred qualifications

Travel Requirement:

N/A other than for local appointments for the individual(s) receiving services.

Key Job Tasks:

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for the following:

Programming

Provide age and functionality appropriate program activities that include assistance, training, and support for the acquisition of functional skills, personal needs, communication, and personal adjustment to promote greater independence and participation in the community.

Implement goal plans as directed and assist in developing goal plans.

Direct communication of important information to the family. the Home and Community Director and/or the Assistant Director..

Correctly and accurately record an individual's activities and progress on service notes, and other forms as required.

Provide individuals with opportunities for community integration.

Meet all the documentation requirements of the electronic visits verification regulations

Food and Housekeeping

Assist the individuals in food preparation and in kitchen duties, teaching appropriate skills.

Prepare meals following nutritional requirements and using proper food storage guidelines.

Assist and monitor with eating and follow eating plans e.g., choking.

Assist the individuals in room care and general house cleaning, teaching appropriate skills.

Medical

Report medical observations and concerns to the family. the Home and Community Director and/or the Assistant Director.

After becoming trained in modified medication administration, support and/or assist individuals with taking medications as prescribed.

Encourage individuals to follow doctor recommendations regarding healthy choices and wellness

Become familiar with and receive training in specific medical protocols as directed.

Personal Care

Assist individuals with personal care and supervision, as outlined in their Individual Support Plan, which may include, but not limited to:

bathing

toileting

grooming

dressing

eating meals

Other

Transport individuals as needed using a personal vehicle.

Supervise general activities for the individuals.

Handle emergencies based on organizational protocols.

Communicate with the the family. the Home and Community Director and/or the Assistant Director using appropriate means.

Attend mandatory staff meetings and/or read the minutes of those meetings.

Participate in twenty-four hours of training annually as required by the regulations.

All other duties to be assigned.
