OVERVIEW:
The Civil Lead is responsible for leading and assisting the construction crew in the completion of assigned work on site. Responsible for interpreting the scope of work from construction documents provided and making sure that the work is completed in a timely manner, within budget, to the customer’s satisfaction. Also responsible for crew coordination and continuity throughout a job, to recognize the individual strengths and weaknesses of crew members, to foster an environment that allows crewmen to increase their skill level and knowledge of the industry, and promote a sense of pride in workmanship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs various construction activities, including, but not limited to site preparation, installation and grounding of equipment, demolition work, landscaping, fencing, facilities maintenance, and repair
Observes all Betacom safety policies and procedures as related to job safety, equipment safety and personnel protective equipment (PPE)
Performs preoperational safety checks on equipment and vehicles prior to use, maintains all tools, equipment, and vehicles in proper working condition.
Completes time sheets and mileage reports, review time sheets for accuracy and completeness, submits daily construction reports to department.
Installs, connects, and tests underground and above ground grounding systems
Performs concrete forming, pouring, and finishing
Performs light carpentry work
Performs landscaping, grading, and fence building (with or without powered equipment)
Performs trenching, excavating, filling ditches
Performs running underground or above ground conduit
Performs material calculations
Inventories, loads, unloads, identifies, and distributes materials to appropriate location and directs Civil Tech.
Performs various construction activities, including, but not limited to excavation, underground utility installation, rebar fabrication and tying, concrete forming, placement and finishing, ice bridge installation, installation and grounding of equipment, site prep work including small scale grading and placement of
ground cover, landscaping, and facilities maintenance and repair such as doors, coax ports, cable trays etc. in shelter sites.
Performs demolition work to include cabinet and conduit/wiring removal, concrete demolition and removal, ice bridge demolition and removal, adding fill dirt and stone or other materials to bring landscape back to grade after demolition.
Performs light industrial steel installations, (Ice Bridge, H-Frames, Equipment Racks, etc.)
Supervises crews to ensure top quality workmanship
Performs preconstruction site walks to determine scope of work (SOW)
Performs post construction quality control walks to ensure SOW was completed with no errors
Tracks daily progress through written reports and verbal communication
Validates completed work to ensure it meets job design/build requirements
Maintains clean worksite and professional attitude and demeanor as a representative of Betacom Incorporated.
Enforces policies and procedures of Betacom, Carrier (Customer), Tower Owner, and OSHA
Provides input in evaluation of performance and career development initiatives for junior personnel
Directs and trains junior personnel in completion of assigned tasks
Supervises crew assignment and hours based on workload and job expectations
Ensures compliance with regulatory operating procedures, including OSHA, EPA, and state and local regulatory agencies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro-mechanical equipment
Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Self-motivated and able to learn quickly.
Ability to lift over 70 pounds.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
One year certificate from college or technical school; or 3 to 6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Effective communication skills, reading and writing skills (English)
OSHA safety courses
Electrician Apprenticeship Certificate/ Journeyman Certificate
Clean Driving Record & Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation to and from work.
Must be able to accommodate out of town travel, if required.
