Class A CDL Truck Driver A driver with a Class A CDL license is a professional who can handle the demands of long-distance driving. This individual is responsible for communicating and coordinating with dispatchers to ensure timely delivery of cargo, while also adhering to applicable traffic laws. The driver must have experience in securing cargo within the vehicle and balancing it correctly to avoid accidents during transit. Furthermore, this driver should maintain a detailed log of their working hours in compliance with state and federal regulations. They should also perform daily maintenance on the truck by refueling, cleaning, and ensuring any mechanical issues are resolved before starting each trip. The driver is responsible for planning routes and meeting delivery schedules, all while complying with truck driving rules and regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities N/A, No Direct Reports
Duties / Responsibilities Long-distance driving – United States potentially Canada
Home every other weekend unless otherwise approved
Long periods of sitting behind the wheel of a Tractor-Trailer (8 Hours of driving before DOT 30-minute break)
Ability to lift 50 lbs or more
Ability to operate a CMV in Interstate and Intrastate Commerce
Communicating and coordinating with dispatchers
Obeying and following applicable traffic laws
Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle
Ability to crank landing gear up/down on trailers
Maintaining a detailed log of working hours in compliance with state and federal regulations
Ensuring any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
Planning routes and meeting delivery schedules
Complying with truck driving rules and regulations
Reporting defects, accidents, and violations
Performing daily maintenance of truck (refueling, cleaning, etc.) trailers, including ability to climb in/out of tractor/trailer when needed, and clean/sweep trailers
Interacting with customers in a professional manner
Maintain mental awareness of himself/herself and others around him/her
Performing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection reports
Recording cargo deliveries
Required Skills / Abilities Class A CDL
Ability to trip plan
Ability to work independently
Ability to effectively communicate with Dispatch
Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent GED
Knowledge of FMCSA Regs
Minimum 1 year experience driving
Physical Requirements Physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting for long periods of time
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Ability to maintain a valid/current Fed-Med card
Other Duties Occasionally trainings will be sent out via Tenstreet for drivers to be coached and stay current with any industry changes
