Overview Description: This is a local management opportunity with a growing, employee-focused organization. Training will begin immediately to prepare you to be responsible for effective and efficient management of a Store. This is not an entry-level management position. Job Summary The Assistant Manager, Store, will manage the daily operations of a Retail Store, in an Assistant Manager role, and act as the Retail Store Manager in the Manager's absence. The Assistant Manager supports the Retail Store's responsibility for meeting financial goals to generate income and donations to support mission operations and community programs. The role requires an empowering, hands-on leader who can operate and manage multiple departments and develop staff.
Responsibilities Assist the Retail Store Manager to achieve goals and objectives and to increase sales and donations.
Recommend changes to operational procedures to maximize expense-to-revenue ratios.
Promote safety for all employees, ensuring OSHA and CARF standards are met. May serve as Safety Representative for the store on relevant committees.
Operate and train on pallet jack, walkie stacker, forklift, hand dolly, or other equipment as needed to move and store donated product and ensure safety.
Maintain awareness of competition and retail trends; suggest appropriate actions.
Maintain knowledge of the Point-Of-Sale system.
Empower, lead, and manage store staff, ensuring safety, productivity, and success.
Oversee daily operations of all store areas including sales floor, donation, production, and storage facilities.
Responsible for hiring, performance management, and goal setting for employees in at least one department; may include recommendations for termination.
Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Goodwill policies and safety standards; participate in employee training and knowledge transfer.
Be on call for alarm notifications after hours.
May perform additional duties beyond listed tasks as required.
Bench Store Assistant Manager: Role may require assignments beyond immediate geographic area to meet business needs, provide coverage, train team members, and collaborate with other management to enhance store performance.
Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred. Experience: At least 2 years supervising retail operations with responsibility for business success and financial results. Other: Strong organizational skills, ability to work under deadlines, understanding of marketing and retail principles, production process knowledge, ability to review financial statements, adaptability, talent development, and effective communication. Must be able to move to other stores within the assigned region as needed and work varied schedules including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Must be able to obtain walkie stacker and/or forklift certification to operate equipment.
Licenses & Certifications Driver's License required.
