The Allergy Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting allergists and immunologists by providing comprehensive clinical and administrative assistance to ensure efficient patient care. The Allergy Medical Assistant serves as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, facilitating clear communication and ensuring patient comfort throughout their visits. Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience working in a clinical setting, preferably in allergy or immunology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience specifically in allergy or immunology clinics.
- Knowledge of allergy testing procedures and immunotherapy protocols.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems used in allergy practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to educate and comfort patients of diverse backgrounds.
- Additional certifications related to allergy or immunology care.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for allergy testing and treatment by explaining procedures and obtaining vital signs.
- Assist allergists during diagnostic tests such as skin prick tests, patch tests, and spirometry.
- Administer allergy immunotherapy injections under the supervision of a licensed provider.
- Document patient medical histories, symptoms, and treatment responses accurately in electronic health records.
- Schedule patient appointments, manage follow-up communications, and coordinate referrals as needed.
- Maintain and sterilize medical instruments and ensure compliance with infection control standards.
- Manage inventory of allergy testing supplies and medications, ordering stock as necessary.
- Educate patients on allergy management, medication usage, and lifestyle modifications to reduce allergen exposure.
