The inpatient pharmacy at Banner University Medical Center Tucson provides medications to patients in all areas of the hospital. In this role, you will join a team that dispenses approximately three million doses of medication annually and service a very acutely ill population and provide an elevated level of pharmacy services to our patients 24 hours a day. You will have the opportunity to work in an inpatient pharmacy supporting a busy Level 1 Trauma Center, assisting with filling medications, stocking shelves, taking inventory, and delivering medications to our nursing units. As an Acute Pharmacy Technician joining the team, you will become part of an elite professional group of technicians. You will learn robotics and electronic dosage preparation via our Carousel an automated dispensing system. Banner University Medical Center Tucson has 122 (automated dispensing) Pyxis units distributed throughout the medical center and you will become familiar with Pyxis medication dispensing units. Daily activities may include walking approximately 3+ miles over an 8-hour shift and handling heavy boxes and/or totes. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in inpatient pharmacy operations to include, including compounding procedures, IV preparation, and total parenteral nutrition compounding. In addition, you will have the opportunity to interact with the nursing staff on about thirty-five nursing units as we provide first-class service to our patients. This is a part-time varied shift position working five 8-hour shifts on a biweekly rotation averaging 20 hours per week. You'll work three 8-hour shifts one week, followed by two 8-hour shifts the next week. The day shift hours are from 6:00am-2:30pm and the evening shift hours are from 1:30pm-10:00pm and 2:00pm-10:30pm with weekends and holiday rotation required. Enjoy a flat rate $1/hour weekend shift differential and an 18%-night shift differential when applicable. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs. This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist performing routine duties in packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist. Becomes proficient in preparing compounded intravenous medications, total parenteral nutrition products, and chemotherapeutic agents within compliance with USP regulations. Effectively uses pharmacy computer systems to investigate and respond to missing medication requests. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. May educate and train peer Pharmacy Technicians, Technician Externs, Technician Trainees, and volunteers. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. Core functions include: Identifying medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Managing users within the automated dispensing technology database as per policy. Exhibiting excellent interpersonal skills and being customer service oriented in all contacts with patients, visitors and staff. May use automated dispensing technology or requisition to restock medications to nursing and ancillary areas. Compounding non-sterile medication products. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Handling narcotic medications following all federal and legal requirements. Becoming proficient in performing compounding and labeling of intravenous non-hazardous compounds.
