Job Summary:
The 2nd Shift - CNC Lathe Team Leader is responsible for supporting CNC lathe operators, coordinating workflow, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production standards. Acting as a key link between Production Management and the shop floor, this role helps drive operational efficiency and maintain a productive, well-organized, and safety-focused environment.
This role oversees a range of CNC lathe platforms, including Nakamura (WT-150, AS200, AS200L), Miyano (BNE, BNJ, BND), Doosan (Lynx, Puma), Hardinge GT, and Star Swiss machines. These machines are comprised of single and multi spindles.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Mentor and coach a group of CNC operators in the Lathe Department.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Production Coordination & Execution
- Set up and operate CNC lathes as required to support production needs or fill in during staffing gaps.
- Collaborate with the Production Manager to finalize machine assignments based on equipment availability and order requirements.
- Ensure all required labor transactions in Shop Floor Manager, or similar MES system, are accurately completed for assigned job orders.
- Monitor adherence to routing instructions and verify team members meet standard cycle times.
2. Team Member Support & Leadership
- Communicate daily updates, including announcements and prior-day performance metrics.
- Serve as the primary point of contact among team members on shift, providing real-time support for operational issues.
- Assist with the training and skill development of team members, including hands-on guidance and reinforcement of best practices.
- Deliver constructive recognition and performance feedback to assigned team members.
- Ensure daily completion of 5S housekeeping duties and operator-level maintenance tasks.
- Promptly escalate issues such as material shortages, tooling problems, scrap occurrences, and equipment downtime.
- Enforce company safety protocols and PPE requirements.

Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of CNC Lathe Setup experience.
- Previous experience in a leadership or team support role strongly preferred.
- Proficient in manufacturing software such as Shop Floor Manager, or similar MES system.
- Strong understanding of machining processes, production workflows, and quality standards.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, feel/reach with hands/arms, talk and hear.
The employee frequently is required to sit and walk. The employee is occasionally required to bend and stop, push and pull, reach above shoulder level, kneel, squat, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
