Hoquiam School District No. 28Substitute CustodianJob DescriptionREQUIRED ATTACHMENTS:Resume, Cover Letter and 3 Letters of ReferenceESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Must have regular attendance.Must demonstrate good judgment, common sense, and confidentiality.Must demonstrate courtesy and tact when dealing with students, staff and patrons.Must be capable of standing/walking without restrictions.Must have the ability to reach, grasp, handle and grip without difficulty on a continuous basis.Stooping/bending or squatting is required on a frequent basis ranging from slight forward bending to floor level.Must be able to lift and carry objects on a constant to frequent basis weighing 0-24 pounds; 25-50 pounds periodically.Frequent to occasional pushing and pulling depending on work assignment.Must have the ability to get along with students, staff and public.Possess the ability to train and provide inservice sessions for custodians.Maintain records and certification requirements.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform cleaning and housekeeping work under direction of the head custodian.Help train new employees and substitute employees in proper cleaning, safety and routine custodial and maintenance techniques.Use power equipment and hand tools such as broom, mop, squeegee, buffer, polisher, and vacuum required for the cleaning and general cleaning and maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture.Clean and sanitize toilet/shower rooms, sinks and fixtures, etc.Empty wastebaskets and trash containers; clean chalkboards and erasers; dust furniture; sweep, mop, and polish floors.Set up and remove furniture required for special events.Open & close buildings, prepare them for use, and maintain security for a building complex when facilities are not in use by checking for locked doors and unauthorized occupants.Perform light electrical work as needed such as: replace light bulbs (interior and exterior) 110V plugs extension cordsClean/Repair/Replace general items as needed such as: blinds, drapes, window coverings, etc.doors, drawers, oil hinges, etc.all heating, cooling air returns and filter covers minor wall repair, painting of walls & windows (inside and out) tissue and other restroom supplies linens and bedding washing windowsDaily maintain the immediate exterior of the building and campus including but not limited to removal of litter; leaves & branches; graffitiRead and interpret written instructions, service orders, and labels on chemicals and supplies.Occasionally drive light trucks.Keep work area & storage areas organized at all times.Perform other duties as assigned.Be flexible to move from one school building to another.WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:Must be able to perform basic reading, writing and math skills. Must be able to read labels and instructions when using chemicals, commercial products and maintenance/custodial directions. Capable of hearing and communicating with students and staff. Capable of presenting information in a concise and organized manner during training programs and in-service sessions. Worker must be able to lift and carry over 50 lbs. Must have good visual application to operate power equipment, tools and machinery and perform regular job tasks in a safe manner. When performing as Custodial Supervisor, would be required to supervise other workers and complete work schedules.QUALIFICATIONS:High school graduate or GED equivalentAbility to do required physical workValid Washington State driver's license.Proof of citizenship (driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, passport, etc.)First Aid and CPR certification.Knowledge of cleaning & sanitation supplies; minor repairs; record keeping.WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Maintenance personnel and custodians are exposed to outside climatic conditions during winter and summer months. Workers would be exposed to chemicals and cleaning solvents. Noise level is considered moderate to above average when working in facilities where children are present. Average and above average for power tools and other maintenance equipment. The above conditions are not to a degree or length of time to cause marked discomfort or possible bodily injury to the worker. Jobs cannot be modified on either a temporary or permanent basis.SALARY: $23.60/hrBENEFITS: One hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked.
