Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Supervising Mental Health Specialist in the First Responder Peer Services within Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare.
The Supervising Mental Health Specialist participates as a member of the First Responder Peer Services leadership unit. Primarily responsible for providing leadership, training, development and supervision to assigned staff.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: As part of the First Responder Peer Services team, actively participates in ensuring the telephone calls/service requests are handled in an effective and “consumer friendly” manner.
Promptly accepts the First Responder Peer Services telephone; makes every effort to respond within three rings, as observed by supervisor.
Responds to telephone contacts with clients or family members in an appropriately courteous, helpful fashion as observed by a supervisor.
Responds to First Responder Peer Services personnel telephone referrals, inquiries, and other contacts with professionals, outside agencies and other parties in a professional and cordial manner, per caller feedback and as observed by a supervisor.
Assesses telephone service requests/referrals and responds in accordance with prescribed First Responder Peer Services procedures. FLSA Exempt Grade 21S Salary Details A minimum salary of $62,188. Must have experience as a firefighter, Corrections Officer, EMS professional or be a retired law enforcement officer. Certifications/Licenses Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Valid driver’s license required. Preferred Qualifications Crisis call experience and certified in QPR (Suicide Awareness Prevention Training) preferred.
Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred. Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent listening and talking in groups as well as on the telephone.
Frequent prolonged sitting. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Handles phone requests under time and decision-making pressure.
Generally pleasant working conditions in a clean, well-lighted, and quiet to moderately loud setting. Special Conditions May be required to work evenings and weekends at various locations depending on office need.
