Job Summary
As an IV Compounding Technician at AmeriPharma, you will play a critical role in the preparation and compounding of sterile intravenous (IV) medications under the supervision of a licensed infusion pharmacist. This position requires strict adherence to aseptic techniques, sterile compounding standards, and internal protocols to ensure the safety, accuracy, and quality of all compounded products.
Schedule Details
Location: On-site, Orange, CA
Shift: 8-hour shifts / 40 hours per week
Hours of Operation: MondayFriday, 6:00 AM 6:00 PM; Saturday, 7:30 AM 4:00 PM (Schedule may vary within operational hours)
Duties and Responsibilities
Sterile Compounding: Prepare IV medicationsincluding TPNs, antibiotics, and other admixturesin a cleanroom environment. Operate automated compounding devices when needed.
Labeling & Packaging: Accurately label and package all compounded medications with complete details, including patient name, medication name, dosage, and expiration date.
Inventory Management: Track medication and supply inventory, including lot numbers and expiration dates. Assist with ordering, receiving, and restocking to ensure operational efficiency.
Quality Control: Adhere to all quality assurance protocols to maintain product safety, sterility, and accuracy. Participate in equipment maintenance, routine inspections, and improvement initiatives.
Environmental Monitoring: Perform routine cleanroom maintenance, document environmental conditions, and conduct surface sampling, media fills, and GFTs as required.
Cleanroom Certification: Participate in biannual cleanroom certification procedures to maintain compliance with sterility regulations.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and compliant records of compounding activities, including calibration reports and patient-specific documentation.
Prescription Entry & Refill Scheduling: Enter prescription data into the pharmacy system and manage refill schedules to ensure continuous patient therapy.
Cross-Training & Support: Assist with other pharmacy operations as needed and engage in cross-training opportunities assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Valid and current Pharmacy Technician License
Minimum 12 years of experience in sterile compounding or IV preparation
Strong knowledge of USP and USP guidelines
Proficient in pharmaceutical math and dosage calculations
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Proven time management and ability to meet deadlines
Effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar systems
Ability to work in a cleanroom for extended periods and lift moderate weight
Preferred Qualifications
Experience operating compounding machines such as Abacus or ExactaMix
