Job Summary
TRIO STEM Peer Mentor will provide a productive, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment that will guide first-generation and low-income students toward study practices, success strategies and aides that help them excel in college. TRIO STEM offers content-specific workshops and project/research-based learning opportunities. TRIO STEM Peer Mentors hold responsibilities such as being able to answer general student questions, attend peer leader meetings and trainings, perform outreach, provide customer service, provide mentorship using a case management model for program participants and other duties as assigned. This is a pooled position, and the department reviews applications as positions become available. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Under the supervision of a TRIO STEM Advisor, Peer Mentors will: Assist in outreach efforts for TRIO STEM.
Mentor participants through one-on-one interactions and group settings.
Participate consistently in appropriate follow-up, documentation, and evaluation activities, including, but not limited to checking and responding to email, text, phone calls and other communication means.
Participate in TRIO event planning and execution.
Facilitate TRIO STEM workshops.
Create a welcoming environment for students.
Meet with supervisor on a recurring basis or as needed to go over completed peer mentor tasks.
Attend all other scheduled activities, events, staff meetings and meetings related to the program. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Minimum Qualifications 2.5 GPA

Is work study eligible Preferred Qualifications Is a current TRIO STEM participant.
Is a current SLCC STEM student. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The TRIO STEM Peer Mentor must: Create and advocate for a welcoming environment for students.
Demonstrate initiative, creativity, teamwork, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
Employ excellent communication skills, including active listening and responding skills.
Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel.
Gather, process, and organize large amounts of information accurately.
Utilize basic computer operating systems and SLCC’s computer systems (MySuccess, DegreeWorks, Ring Central).
Be dependable, have excellent organizational skills, and pay close attention to details.
