Security Officer

The Security Officer provides a valuable resource of information and service for patients, visitors, and staff at the hospital. The officer must display a professional, helpful, and positive attitude when dealing with all internal and external customers. In addition, the officer is responsible for performing security duties, responding to all security alerts, fires, and disasters. The core responsibility is to protect staff, visitors, and patients and property according to policy and procedures.

Responsibilities include: patrolling hospital property to ensure safety, handling and monitoring patients that exhibit violent behavior, investigating security incidents and documenting findings, locking and unlocking various buildings around the hospital campus, and enforcing the hospital parking policy.

The officer must also display a caring and professional attitude when greeting all customers at all times, demonstrate competence in responding to agitation or violent behavior, and perform hazardous patient decontamination procedures. The officer must be able to meet established physical requirements, including sitting, standing, and walking for up to eight hours a day, and occasionally lifting objects weighing over 200 pounds. The officer must also have normal hearing and vision.

Education: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.

Training and experience: Experience in security or security-related fields and customer service is preferred.

Schedule: Part time, evenings 3-11 p.m. including weekend rotation.
