Retail Store Associate I The Retail Store Associate I contributes to the mission of Goodwill by providing amazing customer service to our guests. Assists the store leadership with the day to day store operations and overall store performance. Essential Functions Sales: Demonstrates an enthusiastic, winning attitude at all times. Acts courteously and with interest in each encounter with guests. Greets each guest swiftly upon entering the building. Makes eye contact and smiles. Thanks each guest at the end of the transaction and when they leave the store. Processes guest's transactions quickly and accurately within the cash handling guidelines. Engages with guests while on the sales floor and provides assistance as needed. Maintains all floor visual presentations, i.e. housewares end caps, H-rack displays, shoe racks. Ensures a clean and safe environment in the store, processing area and donation center by good housekeeping practices. Ensures the proper rotation of all store merchandise. Verifies bank deposit and cash drawer at the close of business. Accompanies management personnel to the bank to witness the bank deposit being made. Donations: Greet donors promptly in a pleasant, professional manner. Says hello as you walk to their vehicle. Hands a "Thank You" receipt to every donor. Courteous and helpful to all donors and exceeds their expectation of service. Knowledgeable of acceptable donations, declining donations when appropriate explaining "why and offer an option". Accurately records donations. One donor equals one donation. Thanks every donor by saying "Thank you for supporting Goodwill's mission to change lives and come back soon." Properly sorts products into specific containers according to sorting procedures. Processing: Meets production goals for grading, sorting, hanging, pricing and tagging donated items in preparation for retail sale. Meets or exceeds daily productivity and quality standards as determined by Donated Goods Leadership. Price/Value relationship: price items according to guidelines as to maximize the value of the donations while providing our guests with quality items at a good value. Keeps store stocked in accordance with production goals by transferring salable items to sales floor. Maintains a clean, organized and safe environment by only having necessary items in the production stations. Conducts 15-minute drills at the end of each shift to ensure compliance with station set up. All Areas: Available to our guests and exhibit a high level of customer service by exceeding their expectation. At designated work area ready to work by the scheduled time. Reports known/suspected security and/or theft activity (internal and external) to management. Team members are required to follow Goodwill's safety rules and regulations, as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Knowledgeable of and complies with all company policies and procedures, as well as legal requirements, at all times. Actively maintains a safe, healthy, and positive environment that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of team members, guests, and those in our programs. Regular, reliable attendance, as defined in Goodwill's attendance policy. Attends monthly mandatory store meetings. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications Required Skills: Education: None Experience: Must be certified in the following process for Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee at a Retail Store - The River, Donor/Greeter, Pre-Sort and 2 Additional Workstations/Processes. Knowledge and Skills: Able to communicate effectively with other store employees. Able to learn new processes quickly and possesses strong organizational skills. Able to problem-solve, prioritize and be able to multi-task. Able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and manage a budget. Able to operate cash register. Basic computer skills. Preferred Education / Experience / Knowledge & Skills / Certifications & License: Experience in retail, customer service or production is preferred.
