SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing designated tasks and duties relative to the retail pharmacy. Duties include operating the software system for filling and refilling prescriptions, contacting insurance companies for prior authorization and other issues, operating the cash/credit card register, taking prescriptions and obtaining required patient information for processing, checking out customers picking up prescriptions, and preparing simple non-sterile compounding preparations. The pharmacy tech of this position will perform ordering from the designated wholesalers, maintain inventory, perform medication outdate inspections, and perform front counter duties as needed. It will also be an expectation to assist the pharmacist on duty with any retail related issues that may arise. Understands and exhibits the principles of service excellence, leads by example, and mentors others in the performance of their assigned duties.
JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Process, Fills, and Refills patient prescriptions. Operates the software system for processing prescriptions.
Answers phone calls and helps trouble shoot customer questions and issues related to processing the prescriptions, but not giving clinical advice or recommendations.
Performs buyers' duties such as maintaining inventory, obtaining the most cost-effective equivalent from the designated wholesalers.
Maintain stock, check expiration dates, and rotate inventory to avoid waste. Inform Pharmacist in charge of any back orders and shortages.
Remove expired medications from inventory. Contacts insurance companies to resolve adjudication issues and prior authorization issues.
Obtain and enter into the software system any changes of insurance coverage from customers.
Receives, obtains necessary information from customers to process prescriptions and check out customers during pick up at the register.
Proficient in running the register and responsible for performing duties required of the finance department to close daily financial transactions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Requires knowledge of and familiarity with medical and drug terminology, drug products, location of stock and supplies, etc.
Requires knowledge of procedures for operating the retail software system and maintaining necessary records.
Requires knowledge of procedures of running the register to complete financial transaction at the retail pharmacy.
Requires knowledge of procedures of maintaining inventory; and maintaining narcotic records, prescriptions, etc.
Requires the ability to interpret drug orders for transcribing any paper prescriptions into the retail pharmacy software.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in retail pharmacy is required, and national certification is required within 1 year of hiring date. Position requires the utilization of computer systems and the register.
SPECIAL TRAINING, LICENSURE, CREDENTIALING
Valid Indiana Pharmacy Technician License . National certification required upon hire or within 12 months of hire date.
EDUCATION
Position requires High School diploma or equivalent. Additional coursework preferred.
