About Us Dandelion Chocolate is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory in San Francisco’s Mission District. We make chocolate from only two ingredients, cocoa beans and cane sugar, and travel to origins as often as we can to build good, trusting relationships with the producers who grow and ferment our beans. Today, we’re seeking a Retail Manager to create world-class, high-touch chocolate experiences at our Fillmore Street and Union Street locations while also upholding our mission to be a sustainable, ethical business.
About the Role Our stores are bustling with guests eager to learn about our chocolate making process, taste chocolate, or pick out a special gift. Your day may include meetings with the Creative team to plan for holidays, covering team lunch breaks, coordinating with Facilities on lighting, placing weekly supply orders, conducting 1:1s with team members, responding to Yelp and Google reviews, and working with the Retail Manager team to plan staffing for the holiday season. You will also develop quarterly milestones to improve hours, greeters, systems for tracking goods and inventory, and community events, while prioritizing your team and guest service.
You will foster a shop culture where you build systems to ensure the stores always look their best and guests feel attended to, including personal interactions with regular guests.
About You There are many paths to succeed in this role. You should have the operational chops and leadership experience to manage a high-touch, guest-forward cafe or retail environment. Our ideal candidate has experience running a high-touch shop—restaurant, high-volume cafe, or similar operation—and can own the position by building teams, systems, and processes for smooth shop operations.
Success looks like:
Responsibilities Vision: Develop a vision for an exquisite chocolate shop experience with COO guidance, maintain profitability, and act as the day-to-day owner of the operation.
Department relationships: Build long-lasting systems across Fulfillment, Product, Creative, and other cafe/retail teams to ensure products and merchandise are well stocked and displayed.
Track Financial Objectives: Work with Finance to outline actionable profitability goals and maintain weekly cost reports for goods and labor.
Guest Experience: Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization reflecting the brand; greet guests and ensure attentive service.
Team Member Education: Train the team to deliver high-touch guest care and answer guest questions accurately.
Team Management: Oversee retail teams, ensure safety, complete daily tasks, retain staff, recruit and develop team members for long-term success.
Eye for Detail: Maintain store aesthetics and guest-facing visuals, ensuring consistent presentation.
Other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications Previous Experience: 3+ years in a food establishment (restaurant, high-volume cafe, or intimate retail) with systems and process know-how to prioritize elevated guest service.
Tech Skills: Proficiency with spreadsheets and profitability reports; ability to read/modify financial models to inform decisions on product displays and staffing.
Availability: Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed in a full-time role.
Social Media Capabilities: Respond to guests on Yelp/Google Reviews with a friendly, professional demeanor.
Plus: Passion for chocolate or experience in the cacao world is a plus but not required.
Benefits Dandelion Chocolate offers medical, vision, and dental benefits, 401k eligibility, paid vacation, holiday pay, paid sick time, commuter benefits, FSAs, gym discounts, chocolate tasting opportunities, travel to origin and Japan locations, and opportunities for growth and development within the company.
How to Apply Please submit a copy of your resume and cover letter. Include one or two sentences about your favorite technique for engaging guests. We strive to respond to all serious candidates within 7–14 days. We look forward to hearing from you!
