Retail Credit Risk Analyst

Under the direction of the Manager, performs multi-faceted analyses with regard to the monitoring and quantification of risks associated with the retail credit portfolios. This position also generates various reports used by management in the administration of the retail credit portfolios, as well as to inform other key stakeholders (Board, auditors, and regulators).
Develops and implements analytical methodologies for retail credit portfolios. Performs analyses, including data collection and manipulation, to evaluate the performance of various credit approval models and monitoring processes. Ensures accuracy and completeness of data required to conduct performance analyses. Develops credit odds tables appropriate for Bank of Hawaii’s products and marketplaces, and correlates to risk-adjusted profitability objectives. Creates documentation that clearly and concisely describes the methodologies used, observations and recommendations on each risk and/or product. Conducts research in best practices for quantifying credit risk and relevant current issues.
Monitors operation of front end systems used for credit approval and processing in order to assure integrity of the systems and processes. Evaluates population stability and makes recommendations for changes in the credit decision model. Performs other analyses, including data collection and manipulation, to evaluate the performance of various credit approval models and account monitoring processes. Gathers, organizes and performs quality control checks for data to be used for portfolio databases and management reports. Accesses and interprets information for all loan products and portfolios derived from various accounting systems and databases and using software tools or prepared reports.
Performs analysis and prepares reports for the Asset Quality process to accurately present portfolio information in numerical, graphical and written formats to ensure timely and effective management decision making and appropriate action, including policy and underwriting changes, remedial risk control measures and portfolio/product planning. Also assists in performing analytics and preparing reports for Retail Credit Policy Committee, Board/Audit & Risk Committee, and regulators.
Designs and develops programs to extract data. Maintains and enhances programs to improve data quality, process improvements and system performance.
Maintains an understanding of regulatory compliance issues pertaining to retail credit.
Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience. Coursework or major in probability/statistics or quantitative major preferred.
Minimum 5 years of work experience in banking with knowledge of portfolio management theory and working knowledge of the business application of statistics; or equivalent work experience. Must have knowledge of credit scoring methodologies and experience constructing and validating scoring models. Track record of documentation/data flow skills preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software. Expertise with relational databases required. Knowledge of or ability to use statistics software required.
Excellent written communication skills and the ability to work with and communicate effectively with individuals in other departments. Must be analytical, detail oriented and organized. Able to complete regularly assigned tasks as well as special projects within allotted timeframes. Should be a self-starter who is able to work independently and collaboratively. Must be able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
