The faculty of the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a , professional-track position at the rank of Assistant Research Professor to begin August 16, . The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 2 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Deans approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
The successful candidate will teach one class per semester for the Department of Anthropologys professional masters degree track in archaeological practice, as well as mentor students and sit on and chair graduate committees for the degree track. They also will be responsible for conducting archaeological research in South Carolina, seeking grant funding, publishing their research, and sharing that research with the public. Required Education and Experience By the start date of the appointment, all candidates must have a PhD in Anthropology or related field with a focus on the archaeology of the deep Indigenous past of the Eastern US and an active research program that seeks to decolonize and indigenize that past.
Preferred Qualifications In addition to the required education and experience, strong preference will be given to those with a record of established relationships with Indigenous communities, experience with one or more aspects of public archaeology, and the ability to mentor a broad array of students with diverse research projects.
