Position Overview

Position Objective: Assist the Supervisor in the daily operation of the shift, with an emphasis on training and quality improvement. Maintain a working knowledge of all dye range jobs as may be required to relieve, replace, or assist operating personnel for scheduled breaks, lunch periods, absences, or unscheduled downtime.

Essential Duties

  • Ensure all jobs on the line are performed correctly. This includes but is not limited to sew-on, Instacolor dye application, steamers, SST, dryer, inspection and roll-up equipment and lift truck duties
  • Inspect dyed rolls, perform quality checks and maintain required reports and perform required computer data entry/close-outs
  • Assist with on-the-job training with all new line employees
  • Provide directions/instructions/guidance to all line personnel
  • Assist with shade matching on carpet by visual inspection
  • Assist with dye adjustment decisions
  • Schedule range production by speed and/or width and color sequencing along with dryer profiles while keeping promise dates, service programs and rush shop orders as priority.
  • Provide the fluidyer operator with information concerning upcoming runs and strikes.
  • In order, assign runs and strikes to be dyed.
  • When appropriate, determine the length of lead off material needed between each run or strikes.
  • Extend formulas using Formula Control System for dyeing production
  • Keep a copy of the sequenced order and sequenced roll list in the office for dyeing production schedule verification.
  • Assist in monitoring operations to ensure a quality product is being produced
  • Fill in for supervisor when needed, however, disciplinary action will be handled by department manager
  • Assist in keeping work areas in a clean, orderly manner

Non-Essential Duties

  • Perform weekend cleanup and startup functions.

  • Report safety and quality risks and incidents immediately.
  • Must be knowledgeable and up to date on job procedures and safety requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to reach, handle, stand, walk, speak, hear, look at a computer screen, and look at reports
  • Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and balance
  • Must be able to lift 55 lbs. occasionally
  • Must be able to climb steps occasionally
  • Must be able to go inside dryer, main steamer, post steamer for cleanups, machine problems or changeovers as necessary
  • Close vision is required
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts either day or night, weekdays or weekends as scheduled
  • Must be able to work in temperatures that range from 50 degrees to 100 degrees.
  • Must be able to climb ladders, use air/water hoses, pick up garbage bags, work in wet and dusty environment and work in confined spaces.

  • Work in normal industrial environment with inherent background noise, dirt, humidity, and temperature variations
  • Must be able to perform any job on the dye range
  • The employee works near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places
  • The employee routinely handles dyes and chemicals

  • This job has the responsibility and authority to report to management any quality and safety problems, and potential problems, that are encountered while performing the job
  • This position has the responsibility of the quality and safety of the employees in his/her department
  • Abide by and enforce plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Know evacuation routes, locations of storm shelters, and gathering places.
  • Must comply with all required OSHA, SAFE, and Plant specific safety rules and regulations.
