Job Details Job Location : 0049 St. Brendan Parish, Bothell - Bothell, WA Position Type : Full Time Salary Range : $42000.00 - $85000.00 Salary/year Description The lovely church of St. Brendan and Catholic School of St. Brendan are seeking a full-time Director of Sacred Music to serve at both locations. This position would also have oversight of the choirs at St. Teresa Parish in Woodinville. Director of Sacred Music at St. Brendan Catholic Church Our ideal candidate would be one who has a deep love for the heritage and history of Sacred Music in the Catholic Church, with an appreciation and understanding of reverence and sacredness in the Mass. They would oversee all Sacred Music for Parish Masses, including planning, coordination and execution of music for liturgies and special events and direct three choirs at St. Brendan as well as coordinate with choirs at St. Teresa, select liturgical music that aligns with the Church’s seasons and readings. Core Responsibilities for the Parish: Liturgical Music Planning : Selecting appropriate Sacred Music for all liturgical celebrations, including regular Sunday Masses, Holy Days, and special events, like funerals and weddings. Choir Direction : Rehearsing and directing the parish choirs and giving guidance on performance. Collaboration: Working closely with the Pastor, other parish staff and musicians to plan Sacred Music for weekends and Holy Days. Consult with the Pastor to help implement the liturgical vision for the parish. Musical Leadership : Providing musical leadership and guidance, including training and formation of all music ministers. Administrative Tasks: Managing budgets, maintaining music licenses, and ensuring compliance with copyright laws. Communication: Communicating music selections, rehearsal schedules, and other relevant information to the choir and parish community. Key Skills and Qualifications for the Parish: Musical Proficiency: Experience singing and/or directing Gregorian chant and Polyphony, including fluent reading of chant notation. Strong musical skills, including the ability to play an instrument (organ preferred), vocal training, and experience in choral conducting. Liturgical Knowledge : Deep understanding of Catholic liturgy, including the liturgical calendar, seasonal music, and the role of music in worship. Leadership : Ability to lead and motivate musicians, both adults and youths; communicate effectively with various stakeholders; and manage a music program. Administrative Skills : Organizational skills to manage budgets, scheduling of organists and other schedule and administrative tasks associated with the music program. Director of Music at St. Brendan Catholic School St. Brendan Catholic School has one class per grade in preschool through 8th grade, with a total of 255 students. Candidates must be practicing Catholics who are committed to sharing our Catholic faith with students and guiding them to achieve high academic standards. Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree (preferably in education), a teaching certificate is highly desirable for this role but not mandatory. Core Responsibilities for the School: Development: Plans and implements comprehensive music curriculum for grades kindergarten through 8th grade that includes liturgical musical chant, singing, music theory, and introduction to instruments. Selects and organizes the curriculum and instruction materials. Adapts methods and materials to accommodate student learning differences and plans for both long-term and short-term instructional goals. Choir Direction : Organizes and directs student participation in Sacred Music for school Masses, aligning music selections with the liturgical seasons. Prepares and leads students in musical performances including Christmas programs, spring concerts, and school-wide celebrations. Collaboration: Works closely with the School principal in implementing the mission of the Parish and School. Participates in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s goals and objectives. Participates in regional and deanery collaborative efforts as approved and appropriate. Leadership: Plans and implements the instructional programs and activities that further the Catholic philosophy and goals of the School. Ensures that the classroom atmosphere fosters knowledge of the Catholic faith; development of appropriate ethical choices, the Catholic faith, and Christian leadership; and integrates Gospel values in daily classroom activities. Communication: Communicates music selections, rehearsal schedules, and other relevant information to the choir and Parish community. Works toward (and eventually attain) the Seattle Archdiocese’s catechetical certification. Maintains all clearances with City Investigations Corporate Security (CICS) and the Safe Environment Program.
